Scrod, are you sure those Vuelta cogs are 3/32"??

Same thing happened when I stuck that replacement on, and I was about to have my head explode.

I fixed the problem by putting the spare 1/8" kmc Z410 I was saving for another build.

I don't know why I didn't think to try that the first time!

Thanks Scrod. Would you say the same about Protype BB's while we're on the topic? Do they bottom out when they get tight enough?

I'd like to avoid getting a TW-2 if I don't really need it.

it does. makes me really wish I had just paid more for the regal

scrod is there any reason why I shouldn't put origin8 110bcd cranks on my gfs 722? she says the reach is fine, but she's gotta slam her seatpost to reach the bottom of a pedal rotation and it seems a little stretched (though she says it is fine). I thought about grabbing the 155 or even the 140 since it seems some of them work with her SQTP bb. she doesn't need anything super stiff, she's 100ish lbs, but I worry because I know jack/**** about anything under 130

The Protype - and other standard cartridge-style BBs - is a different story. You can do some damage to the BB or your frame (or both) by overtightening the cups and the square taper interface on your crankarms can be ruined by over-torquing.

I've seen a few decent used torque wrenches on eBay from time to time. Like I said, after using it a few times on certain parts, you'll know what the proper torque feels like and won't need to use it every time but if you plan on doing most - if not all - of the work on your bike yourself, it's definitely a good thing to have in your toolbox.

If she's that small, you probably should have picked a different bike for her to begin with.

well in hindsight I should've paid a little more and got a 650c wabi, but I was trying to cut cost and willing to roll the dice on the 722 at $150, not my best moment. but for now I'm trying to make what she has work. she's not tip toe riding or anything, but I'd like more options for her fit if they can be done reasonably cheap

Hey sorry, wasn't meant as a put down. I like plenty of stuff from before my time.

And yeah, keep posting the Bundy gifs. Much better than whatever that one is.
