I lived in the Coronado District and was one of the few white people in my 'hood. Little kids would literally walk around selling fresh tamales out of an Igloo cooler on weekends.

For the most part, Phoenix sucks.

Just got some Deda compact drop bars in white and a pair of brake hoods and levers. Is there a 'proper' position for the hoods to be installed on the bar? What about drop bar angle in relation to top tube? Is there a correct angle or is it more of a fit preference?

Really want to wrap these things, but I'm guessing there will be adjustments that bar tape will prevent from happening smoothly.

With a compact drop bar, where you hold the drops should be level with the top of the bend of the bar.

This.

You'll be able to reposition the levers slightly after wrapping your bars but not very much.

Scrod,

What is your intended purpose the the BK you just built? It looks awesome, seriously tasteful and nice build(unsurprisingly), but I recall you mentioning you used your Kagero for distance and the 722 for bombing around town, so I was just curious what gap you were filling with the BK, or if you just wanted another sexy option.

Leader used to sell there S805 carbon/steel fork in 1" threaded. You may still be able to get some old stock on their ebay page. I bought one several months back for an old GT road frame and it seems to be good quality (if a bit heavy compared to a full carbon fork).

I'm pretty sure those are long gone.

Just came across this on eBay, figured I'd post it here.

between a kilo tt and a 722ts, which of the two would seem like a better ride for daily commuting as well as metric century rides?

The 722's geo is a little more forgiving but considering that both of those frames don't have provisions for water bottles or clearance for fenders (which you may need commuting), I would choose something else if that's your overall plan for the bike.

Ha! I actually just saw that a couple of days ago too.

Scrod,

Not sure if this goes in the retro-gression thread or here, but I'm going to put it here because I've already purchased the item and I just need some technical help. I just purchased a stem and these bars: http://www.retro-gression.com/produc...drop-handlebar I didn't realize the tops were as flat as they are. Where am I supposed to mount the brake lever / what size lever do I need? I usually use a cross lever on the right hand side of the bars, so should I just go with a 31.8 and mount it just right of where the stem clamps to bars? I really only use the brake for emergencies, but my only issue is that I feel it will be too close to the center and I will have to re-position my hands from the edges to the center pretty quickly if I need to stop. Thanks for any help you can give me!

Scrodzilla 05-03-12 08:07 AM

You need to use a lever with a 31.8 clamp, as seen here:

That's typically where any cross lever should be mounted on drops (flat or otherwise), unless you want to lose half of the top hand position.

N+1, dude!

Seriously though, I've always liked EAI frames and like to ride what we sell. I can't really have a solid opinion on something unless I have some experience with it.

I just wanted to build a bike that would be good all around. I think I've finally done it with the Bare Knuckle, as it seems to be what I may have been looking for all along. I love all my bikes but I think the BK is my favorite (and not just because it's new).

spitfirees20 05-03-12 08:19 AM

Awesome; thanks for all the help scrod!

IvyCap 05-03-12 12:20 PM

comparable to all the bikes you own, is the Kagero worth the $$$?

Scrodzilla 05-03-12 12:44 PM

It is.

calv 05-03-12 02:43 PM

how do i grow longer legs so my seatpost can show the whole thomson logo?

Scrodzilla 05-03-12 02:47 PM

What length post do you have? The shorter ones (250mm) have logos that are closer to the top.

When do we get to see your whip?

Jaytron 05-03-12 02:50 PM

Scrod,

How do we make Calv finish his bike before the world ends this year?

I have the same problem. Got the longer post for cheap on craigslist, and half of my logo is in the seat tube. :(

x2, let's see it!

calv 05-03-12 03:15 PM

I'm already riding around in Davis

Now I feel even shorter because I have the shortest seat post

Do you know the recommended spoke tension for A23's?

Also, is it normal for the Lasers to wind up as I'm tightening them?

Also, I forgot to lube the nipples before putting them in the spoke holes (I lubed the threads though). Should be ok?

I'm learnin'.

calv 05-03-12 05:49 PM

Still tweaking the fit, and not happy with my no name stem.

hairnet 05-03-12 05:50 PM

What's wrong with it? other than being no name

hamfoh 05-03-12 05:53 PM

other than your stem and your massive steerer tube I really like that

ddeadserious 05-03-12 05:55 PM

calv, Kagero looks good! :thumb:

How did you(or Angie) finish off the bar tape without finishing/electrical tape?
