How did you(or Angie) finish off the bar tape without finishing/electrical tape?

It's the adhesive strip that comes with the tape. It also has the grip material as the tape itself but minus the padding.

Do you know the recommended spoke tension for A23's?

Also, is it normal for the Lasers to wind up as I'm tightening them?

Also, I forgot to lube the nipples before putting them in the spoke holes (I lubed the threads though). Should be ok?

I'm learnin'.

Properly prepped spokes shouldn't wind up. Did you prep the threads?

I never (ever) lube threads. You should lube where the nipple comes in contact with the hole in the rim.

Calv - those silver A23s/75s are on point (holy **** they look good) but you need to fix your damn cockpit.

i want to replace the cheapo headset that came on my scrambler with a FSA orbit x, should i use a silver or black one?
also when i got my frame, the steer tube was either super short or already cut to pretty much the (conveniently) perfect size for the parts i used, just added 7mm of spacers..
did i get an already cut steer tube or is this normal? i feel like this picture from the eighthinch looks like theres a full 6 inches sticking out of the top when its in the headtube.
http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=248254

will the FSA headset stack height still work with the length of steer tube i got on there now?

Notscrod, but I feel like asking your lbs would probably help you more in this situation...

Are you there Scrod? it's me, Margaret. Why U no lube spoke threads?

I am also interested in this actually. I thought that lubing was done by dipping the spokes in the spoke prep, but I actually know very little about wheel building and would love to hear more.

Hell yeah, definitely. I wanted to be safe and get the steerer tube cut a little longer than usual. Should get recut in a few days.

Muffin Man 05-04-12 12:49 AM

If i have 2 stripped nipples on my driveside of my rear wheel on my roadie, what are my options? I am hoping to replace the nipples myself, and just taking it to the lbs to tension, true and dish the wheels. My wheel is legitamitly out of dish by an entire cm right now

Haha, jeez. We'll see how this wheel holds up. I got everything tensioned and true, but there is a slight hop that I couldn't get out. Stripped (at least) two nipples hardcore. I may have to have you send along some spare nipples and spokes when my other rim comes in.

I lubed the threads cuz that's what Sheldon said to do. What's funny is I greased the nipple/rim contact point on my IRO wheelset build, but totally forgot to do it this time. By the time I realized my mistake I had already finished lacing so I didn't want to undo everything I did.

Spoke prep or linseed oil on the spoke threads, yes. Grease or other oil, no.

The frame with the fork cost $400 new but some of the frames had problems with the chainstays being too wide to fit some cranks, specifically omniums. The biggest issue getting it used is that it has a built in seat-mast which has to be cut to fit the rider. It can be cut down but not made longer, so if the previous user was shorter than you then it is a really bad deal. Likewise, this reduces its resale value if you do buy it. That being said, I like mine a lot and if it does fit, it seems like a pretty good deal to me. There is a long thread about this bike: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...Fuji-Track-Pro

GENESTARWIND 05-04-12 06:10 AM

thank you.

Scrodzilla 05-04-12 06:15 AM

proof - thanks.

I happen to think those frames are crap for riding on the street. Also, I love how the dude selling it can't ride it because he works too much and has a girlfriend.

prooftheory 05-04-12 06:19 AM

I'll agree that it isn't a good commuter/bar-hopper frame. Basically the only thing I ever really look for in a frame is whether it feels fast and it does feel fast.

Why no grease? I have read and been told otherwise.

Because that's how I roll.

I don't brush my hair or wear jeans either, but I've heard other people do.

Okey dokey. I wasn't sure if "lube" being used to mean the same thing as spoke prep or whether it was actual lube (i.e. not spoke prep).

There are some special thread locker products that use the oil on the threads to seep through and then form the thread locking compound. dont remember the name though :P
