Hi Scrod. Don't have anything to ask. It's been awhile. Just wanted to drop by. Took my fg for a 40 miler on the evening of the 4th. Lots of people along the Natchez Trace Parkway here in TN set off their own fireworks. That and seeing about 2 dozen deer made for a real nice ride. The skunks?...not so much. Hope you're doing well. From the number of pages it looks as though you are. All the best, Nash

Scrod, is there anything I should worry about when buying a set of used cranks? My Omniums need to be replaced because they hit my chainstay at times.
|
Scrod: still think the jackass thread is a snoozefest? Lol

Hey Scrod, would you know where I can find an Italian Threaded bottom bracket with a 103mm JIS spindle length? Don't mind if its track or road oriented. I just got a pair of dura ace cranks for my EMX. :/ Thinking of a hybrid using Italian cones with a track spindle or something..

Buying a new rear tire. Was going with Soma Everwear, still I saw they offered another option "Super Everwear". Apparently has more puncture protection and stronger sidewalls (I did hear they blow easy).
I do skid. Suggestions on which one to go for? Super Everwear is Steel Bead only. |

Got the first flat of my bike's life last night (thankfully only half a mile from home; didn't have tools on me). 25c Gatorskin, ran over some glass and noticed the back wheel was a little funny.
Tube's patched, found the small cut (about 2mm long) on the tire. Still rideable, I take it? This is the first cut I've had in the tire so I'm not sure if it's still okay to ride with. Not in the mood to go out and get another tire right now. -_- Though I do have a 28mm Rando sitting in the closet that I could use (bought it for winter). |
You should be alright. Keep an eye on that spot though and make sure the tube doesn't start creeping out. If it does, get one of these.
They're supposed to be for emergency situations only but if you're using one to patch a small cut or hole, they will probably outlast the tire. |
Not Scrod but I always carry a bit of duct tape for tire patching
|
Duct tape breaks down after a while. Those Park tire boots will not.
|
Got it, thanks for the tip.

Another rescue option is a clif bar wrapper or a dollar bill. Both will last enough to get home. If you have the option spend your dollar on a tasty tasty chocolate mint clif bar.

I have no idea.
Interloc Racing has the QB55 bottom bracket, which has removable aluminum cups. You can get them French, Swiss, and Italian. |
That's why I love you Derek.

True but if he's looking for longevity and the rest of the tire is fine, those Park boots will last much longer than just getting you home. A roadie girl whose bike I used to work on had one patching a 5mm cut in one of her GP4000s for nearly a year.
WHOA....didn't know they were that good I could have salvaged a Rando with one of those BTW when I first read that I thought it said A roadie girl....I used to work on |

What are you buying? If they are square taper, make sure the interface isn't rounded off damaged. If they are GXP, the BB will be a crap shoot. Also be on the lookout for stripped pedal threads.
Looking at getting a used set of Dura Ace 7710s |
Hey Scrod, a couple of torque questions if you happen to know:
1. Torque Specs for the protype iso bottom bracket? Mine only came with a box and bolts, no manual. Should I just go off of Sugino 75 bb torque specs? 2. Nitto UI-21EX stem? Both faceplate and clamp? I might have to make a separate thread for this one, I searched high and low and couldn't find anything. Does the UI-85 come with a guide, do you think it might be similar to the 21EX? Thanks. |

Also, if it is a small cut in the tire I will sometimes super glue the hole. just make sure the tube is out when you do this. I find it lasts surprisingly long
