Scrod, will White Lithium grease be ok to use when I take apart and clean/regrease my bb? Or should I be using something else?

Scrodzilla 07-08-12 11:03 AM

White lithium will be fine.

Street rider 07-08-12 02:49 PM

Anything that for one reason or another would last longer or be smoother?

Hey Scrod, a couple of torque questions if you happen to know:

1. Torque Specs for the protype iso bottom bracket? Mine only came with a box and bolts, no manual. Should I just go off of Sugino 75 bb torque specs?

2. Nitto UI-21EX stem? Both faceplate and clamp? I might have to make a separate thread for this one, I searched high and low and couldn't find anything. Does the UI-85 come with a guide, do you think it might be similar to the 21EX?

Thanks.

Before it's lost in the shuffle

Scrodzilla 07-08-12 06:41 PM

Because the design is nearly identical, I would use the torque specs for the Shimano UN55. Installing a sealed cartridge BB is really a no-brainer though.

As for the stem, I have no idea...

solipsist716 07-08-12 06:44 PM

How do you remove stripped Allen heads at the shop? A guy brought in a bike for me to work on the other day and to call him ham-fisted would be an understatement.

Scrodzilla 07-08-12 06:55 PM

On a few occasions I've taken a Dremel and carefully cut a notch, then used a flathead screwdriver (if the head is fully recessed, this may not work) but if it's really bad, you'll need to use an extractor.

I figured as much, didn't think about cutting a notch though. Thanks dude!

I like to take a Torx bit of the next larger size and tap it into the head of the screw with a mallet. 50% of the time, it works every time.

Sweet, thanks. I'll find that info for the stem somewhere.

Do Mr.Tuffy tire liners work?

Yeah, but you're better off just buying a good tire to begin with.

I contacted Leader waiting for a response but since you are a dealer I would ask you, is it possible to get a replacement front emblem (think thats the correct word) for the 722ts frame? the one citygrounds sent me was crooked and when I took it off it got messed up.

Thanks.

Scrodzilla 07-09-12 05:56 AM

I'm sure you'll hear back from Leader at some point. Considering the 722TS is no longer made and the Heritage Edition has a different head badge, you may be up the creek.

Oh, and from the very first post in this thread:

Please keep in mind that there is already a Retrogression thread in the marketplace, where updates and answers to questions about stuff we sell are posted on a regular basis.

This is why we love you Derek.

Why is there a sudden outburst of FGFS threads?

seau grateau 07-10-12 02:07 AM

Because Carleton doesn't understand why people do wheelies.

Scrodzilla 07-10-12 05:21 AM

Because TrickTrack doesn't exist anymore and ****** sucks.

Alright Scrod got a challenge.

New job at Jimmy Johns and requires a brake. My bars are Nitro RB 021 38cm and my ideal brake lever would be a cross lever. But the problem is the flats on the bars are so narrow and I would want the lever as close as possible to the stem. The center of the bars are 26.0. The problem is that when I use a normal salsa or tektro lever it leaves little space on the flats for me to ride. So I need a narrow clamp.

Suggestions?

jaded_fable 07-10-12 08:30 PM

Know of any compact drops with a shape like the Deda RHM 02's, but with a 26mm clamp?

Scrodzilla 07-10-12 08:30 PM

Soma Highway One and Civia Emerson.

Bar end lever?

chi0dos 07-10-12 09:05 PM

Scrod, yesterday I fell of my bike pretty hard. I got up and noticed my stem moved slightly off center and now my BB is creaking. Is it possible my BB got messed up?

Dannihilator 07-10-12 09:10 PM

It's entirely possible that it isn't even the bottom bracket. Sounds are deceitful little buggers.

chi0dos 07-10-12 09:13 PM

I flipped my bike to see where the noise was coming from and it was the crank/bottom bracket area. Made sure chain bolts were tight but yeah, im stumped

+1 on the Civia Emerson. Just got these, and like them. Basically a clone of some of the better known compact drops, but in silver instead of the usual black, and of course, in 26mm. Nice bends, very comfy. Not as nice looking as Nitto, but under bar wrap, so what.

BTW: I would not really recommend the Civia stem to go with it. Looks much nicer online than in person. For a simple silver stem in that price range, the Velo Orange is much nicer.

I'm willing to bet it's the saddle.

To single out the bottom bracket, get the bike on it's wheels, have the drive-side crank at the 6 o'clock position and put pressure on the pedals, repeat the same with non-drive side. If you get a creak, it's the bottom bracket.

FWIW, the Civia bars come in silver and black and the stem is exactly the same as a Dimension.

More often than not, it's the damn saddle.

anonym 07-10-12 09:33 PM

Scrod,

What's the word on the EighthInch 144bcd cranksets from RG? The website says to use a 68x107mm bb but I've seen people recommend 68x103mm bb's. I'd like to run the chainring on the outside of the spider.
