I usually just use whatever tires happen to be on the bad-weather Raleigh at the time - which are usually throwaways left at the shop.

Neat. Now how do I figure out the spoke length I'll need since the rim and hub are proprietary junk?

Apparently when I answered him - you know, in the thread where I answer questions - it wasn't good enough.
I happen to think spocalc sucks compared to this. |

It gets icy here too but my ride to the shop takes about 4 minutes if I go as slow as possible without falling over.

Pake French 75 + Omniums, yea or nay?

scrod i need your opinion on tires.
I need a durable flat resistant tire. I currently run gatorskins and am extremely dissapointed with these tires, i get flats constantly. I am thinking about trying out the specialized armadillos but would like your input on a puncture/flat resistant tire first. Oh and i run 23's. |

Based on the pic, I would most likely replace that tire or at least stick a boot inside. Gatorskins are great but have crappy sidewalls. If you're not stuck on using 23c tires, get some 25c Ribmos (which do run a little small). |

Ok cool. Thanks, bud.
I agree about the Armadillos, FWIW. |

It helps if you're a regular customer that has a good relationship with the shop. Hang out a bit, ask for an internship, boom.
The first shop job I had literally fell into my lap. I wasn't even a regular customer, I just happened to go in one day to buy something stupid like tubes and the owner said 'Hey, do you know how to install a headset?" and when I told him I did, he said "Grab whatever tools you need and get to work". |
Scrod
Any recommendations for a 28-32C cross tire that's cheap? Have a friend coming to town in November with his cross bike and I'd like to hit some mild trails with him on my 722. Edit: Found the Kenda Kwick Tire 700x30c Black/Mocha Steel on QBP, they're real cheap. Do you have any experience with them? Hoping they'll fit.. |
Scrod,
I'm looking at getting new pedals, and think I've narrowed it down to either the MKS GR-9 or the MKS Urban Platforms. Which would you recommend between those two? Main differences I can see is that the Urbans have sealed bearings and are a slightly larger pedal. I don't have particularly large feet (size 10-11 mens), so am not sure if the larger size would help or hinder me. Do you have any preference? |
I prefer the Urban Platforms because my size 12 feet are a little too big for GR-9s.

A bigger clip will only put your foot further forward on the pedal. I don't even use size XL clips.
|
I wear a size 14, and used the A/C plastic clips in large and they fit just fine.

Hey Scrod. I got a couple questions today. Planning to order the Kilo TT soon, but I know that mostly everyone would recommend to change out the saddle as they are really uncomfortable. And I don't think it comes with a flip-flop hub.
My questions is, what is a good brand of Saddle I can get for commuting to work around 5miles back and forth and addition 2-3 miles to other places. What is also a really reliable and good brand of flip-flop hub? Best ratio for the teeth? Would you also recommend me changing the crankset also? Also what is a good pedals? My feet size is 8 1/2. And lastly what drop bar would you recommend? Normal size or compact would be fine. I want a flip-flop hub so I can use the Single-gear for commuting to work, and fixed for riding around the town. Thanks! :thumb: |
The Kilo most certainly comes with a flip-flop hub.
