If you're going to pay the money, do something wacky!

Nagrom_ 01-21-13 10:50 AM

How's that bronchitis?

Dang but $125 is like 25% towards another frame already.

I've briefly considered powder-coating, but the cost...

Exactly why its a great alternative. If the only issue you have with the frame is the paint, paying 25% of what a new one would cost is a great deal.

BigglyPuff 01-21-13 02:08 PM

True.

Still an expensive issue to have. Not as expensive as needing a new frame though.

Mumonkan 01-21-13 04:57 PM

scrod:

if i do end up getting this thing coated, is there a way to get a new headtube badge?
or would you have any advice on reattaching one that presumably has crapped up adhesive after being removed?

mine didnt cost near $500, but i love this frame and i want to have it for a long time

if i get an "expensive" frame its most likely going to be aluminum and it wouldnt replace this bike, just add to my arsenal

I'm seriously considering going with a raw powerdercoat finish on my vintage Stumpjumper. A local company called Groody Bros. does powdercoat/frame modification, and if the stuff they've posted on Facebook is any indication, they do a fantastic job. Might cost a bit to ship though.

I have a couple of those badges at the shop.

I'm sure you can find somewhere local who will do just as good a job.

Hey Scrod I was wondering if you had any advice on installing the zero stack headset for leader. Also I was wondering if the 2013 735 headtubes were "faced" (is that the right term not to sure).

Lol that's like 68% of the frame cost. If you got your frame in the citygrounds blowout like I did. I'm pretty sure you did.

solipsist716 01-22-13 02:49 PM

Plus the cost of getting your bb shell/headtube faced.

That being said I'm still for the idea.

Use a headset press like you would with any other headset.

Most of the Leader frames I've seen have been good to go out of the box.

Thank you so much. You have no idea how helpful you and retrogression have been to helping me build my first bike from scratch. Can't wait to be done so I can show it off.

Scrodzilla 01-22-13 04:33 PM

Anytime, man!

I want to say Coghouse. Pretty sure I went with Coghouse. Almost...ALMOST got another frame this past black friday. Literally had one in my cart, a click away from paying. Glad I didn't.

Hey Scrod, Im about to build a new bike for my girl and I'm having a hard time finding a nice steel singlespeed frame with fender eyelets . Any suggestions .? Preferably the sub $500 range for the frameset . Oh and she wants to run the velo orange hammered fenders .

The Fyxation Eastside frameset is low-buck, decent quality cro-mo and has eyelets and clearance for full fenders.

myketee 01-22-13 06:11 PM

Cool, im ordering it from you right now, what bottom bracket would you recommend .?

Scrodzilla 01-22-13 06:28 PM

That depends on the crankset being used.

myketee 01-22-13 06:53 PM

Sorry, IRD defiant

Scrodzilla 01-22-13 06:55 PM

Either a 110mm Shimano UN55 or the Andel BB will be perfect.
