Road bars are typically 24mm where you'd mount hoods.

As far as one being better than the other, I have no idea.

I like my Cane Creek SCR5's.

SRAM S500 or S900 is ultimate though. But they aren't spring loaded, so no brakeless hooding without modification if that's what you want.

Are the SCR5's spring loaded?

Yea, but the cable holder thing still rattles. Doesn't bother me too much though since the levers still stay put in the open position.

Ooh, an empty brake lever is a great antitheft device. Let's see you try and stop at the intersection if you're not used to using your legs sucker....

I want some SRAM S500s so bad, but $50+ for brake levers seems kind of ridiculous.

Scrod, what made you decide brakeless? I'm considering it since I'm getting new bars soon, just looking for more options.

He told me that he rides brakeless because he likes riding brakeless.

IIRC, the answer can be found somewhere in this thread.

I always forget about the in-thread search funtion. Before I asked I was scrolling every page, and I'm too lazy for that. But I found it, and it makes sense. No one said anything about it being a theft-deterrent though. Any little bit of you do it for that reason at all?

It's probably not really a theft deterrent, but love the idea of some thief rolling into an intersection and pumping brake levers that aren't connected to anything and pitting his shance.

Bike theft isn't really a problem where I live and my bikes are very rarely out of my sight when they are locked up somewhere.

Ever consider getting a geared bike? If so, what would you get?

And have you ever done an alleycat or any other race?

Hi Scrod,

I have a front brake with a bar-top style brake lever. I want to replace the lever with one that has a larger clamp. The levers are identical save the clamp diameter. There is a small cap that has been pressed on to the cable-end.

I think all I need to do is cut off the small cap and pull the inner cable out, effectively detaching the lever from the caliper. Then feed the cable back through the new lever, the housing and the caliper. Leaving aside all the clamping, tightening and aligning, am I on the right track here as far as switching the lever?

Thank you!

↓↓↓ Awesome, thanks again.

Hey Scrod, opted for the windsor Hour since they didn't have Moto Tracks in my size/color.

Already purchased a Krypto "U-lock".

Do you think I should also grab one of these? For assembly/repairs?

https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/...sembly_kit.htm

Thanks again.

I should totally make a DVD and sell it with a little tool kit.

25 bucks isn't too bad for that stuff.

I'd buy it lol.

Also, I hear there are different (sized??) spoke wrenches. I almost took a spill which resulted in my front wheel BADLY going out of true. What do you advise I do? pay a shop to do it or try and do it myself? Which spoke wrench do I need or can I use any?

I'm leaning a little more towards doing it myself since i'm planning on building my own wheels in the near future..

If you want to attempt it yourself and don't know which size wrench you need, this is a life-saver:

I would definitely try to do it yourself first. It's not hard... just takes a pit of patience. If you can't get it, then you can take it to your LBS.

Yes I will definitely try it myself. I have Sun M13's built by Ben from Velomine if that helps.
