It really depends on the rim, spokes used and lacing of the wheel.

Those rims are pretty rigid. I would think only a small spot where that missing spoke is would go slightly out of whack and be a pretty easy fix if the wheel was built right to begin with.
|
Thanks for your time.
A buddy and I were having a discussion on 28 vs 32 vs 36 and how much we suspected they would go out. We were also talking about 622 vs 559. We are just trying to get the knowledge without resorting to a scientific experiment, ya know, taking bolt cutters to a spoke. |
All you'd really need to do is loosen one spoke 4-5 turns of a spoke wrench if you want to do a real-world experiment.
|
We'd want to accurately replicate "Immediate failure". :p Just yuckin' around.

[h=1]Scrod,
When will you get more of the Aventon Mataro's back in stock? I'm looking at the 49mm size.[/h] |

Hey Scrod
I just put together my first fixed gear bike and I noticed that my cog doesn't quite line up with my chainring, which sticks out a bit more. I'm guessing this is because of the pretty wide BB that came with my s300 cranks? Is there an easy way to fix this? Cheers! |

Assuming you installed your cog the right way (with the flange on the inside) you should stop worrying about it and ride your bike.
Thanks man |
Hey Scrod, just tried installing a new 710SL chain, and realized it's one link too short at 100... I need 101 links exactly for my two most commonly used cogs. The previous KMC 710 chain I'd used came with 112 links -- like most other KMC chains seem to.
Does the 710SL come in longer lengths than the default 100? Or, can you recommend another chain that comes with > 100 (looking at either the Izumi eco or Z510HX possibly). I'd used a Z410 first, and it didn't last long at all for me... but loved the 710. Thanks. |

I have about 6 or 7 extra K710 SL links you can have if you want them, just PM me your address, I'll drop 'em in the mail tomorrow.
I was going to say we have a ton of extra links hanging around too. :) |

We probably have some black links on hand.

Scrod,
Curious on your opinion about the Aventon La 30 wheelset (I know they are out of stock) my question is on paper they look very comparable to the MAVIC Ellipse wheelset, do you have any real world experience between the 2? My most bomb proof wheelset I ever owned was the MAVIC Kysriun Sl, they were in my stable for about 7 yrs and were raced on road, CX and even saw some single track and I had zero issues. That's why I'm leaning towards the MAVICS. Thanks |
The LA30 wheels are awesome, especially considering the price. They're about 50g lighter than Ellipses, if that matters. Hopefully Aventon will make more soon.
Ellipses are great wheels but I'm not a huge fan of Mavic's hubs and a lot of people I know who are riding or have ridden them on the street say the rear hub is really fussy and needs constant adjustment. |
Do Ellipses require Mavic's special spokes? To me, requiring proprietary (and usually quite expensive) spokes is a huge downside, but then maybe I'm just paranoid (and a really ****ty wheelbuilder - though I've never actually broken any spokes yet).
