What are my options as far as non-machined/painted over 650c rims go, that won't break the bank?
I typically just use Velocity Deep V's. I know H+Son has their two 42mm rims in 650's. Wish they'd either make their Archetype or TB14's in a 650 as well. Open Pro and CXP's both have visible brake surfaces. HED, ENVE, Zipp, etc are a little (a lot) out of my price range. So a lower profile, inexpensive, non-machine side walled 650c rim. I'm assuming that narrows the field by quite a bit, just wondering if there's anything out there that I haven't discovered on my own minimal research. |
Two things:
1. This isn't the 'ask seely' thread. 2. He asked about 650C rims, not 650B. Velocity Fusion and A23 are available in 650c, as well as the Kinlin XR300 but they all have a machined sidewall. If you want non-machined you'll need to go with a Deep V, Formation Face or SL42. |

Sorry for the million questions, I just don't feel like creating a new thread/topic every time I have a lone question.
Look shoes. http://www.lookcycle.com/media/catal...haussure-4.png Those are shown on Look's website, but that's the only place I can find any info about them. Google Searching doesn't pull anything up. Can't find them for sale ANYWHERE. Can't even find them on eBay. The only photos online are from Look's product page about them. I know you guys carry Look frames, pedals, and cleats on your page...so I was wondering if you know about the availability and MSRP for these. |
I've never seen them and they're not listed on Look's US dealer site so unfortunately I can't be of much help with that one.

Scrod, do you see Retrogression taking another look at Leader frames again, with the new 721 and Cure re-designs, along with what might be the new 735 (if that new Undefeated racing concept is the new 735), and possibly carrying them again if they are up to snuff? Serious question.

They can keep doing all the half-assed collaborations they want with hip clothing brands and headphone companies - none of which will give them any more legitimacy as a bike manufacturer. Also, they're owned by Brotures now. Let them peddle that "urban lifestyle" crap to fools in Japan. |
My bad, I wasn't aware of the history of your shop and Leader.
|
There's a lot people don't know about how ****ty Leader is. I regret ever having anything to do with that company.

It's all good. I need to go take a shower now.

Hey Scrod,
I noticed on your site that you have the Miche cranks and BB listed as being ISO. Their site says otherwise. What gives? http://www.miche.it/products/compone...s/primato.html Also- how do you feel about these cranks? Is the BB any good or will it fall apart on me in no time? |
The ones we have are the older ISO version (like it says on the 'more info' tab on our site).
Angie's been using a set on her Vigorelli for over 3 years without any issues at all. I know a few other people in town who really like them as well. The Miche BB is as good as any other mid-range cartridge BB. People like to freak out about how the adjustable cups don't like to stay in place but the secret sauce is blue Loctite, just like you'd use on Phil Wood cartridge BB cups. |
What's the scoop on this IRD brand? I was looking at their Defiance crankset, because it's pretty economically priced, and looks really cool.
For the threaded headset, you wrote "Hands-down one of the finest threaded headsets on the market...". On another website, I read their bottom bracket is comparable, and if not better in some aspects to Phil's, yet it's about half the price. So are they actually premium quality at a mid-level price? |
Yes, Interloc Racing Design makes very nice stuff.
|
Scrod,
When are you getting more Retro cycling caps back in stock? |
Might be a stupid question, but when buying an after-market seat collar, do you want to get the exact size as your seat post? Or slightly bigger?
Because the Cinelli Vigorelli uses a 31.6 seat post, yet the Phil Wood seat collars come in 31.8. Is that the one I would need for it? Or do they just not make one for that size? |

Think about that for a second. If a 31.8 fit, that would mean the tubing wall is only .2mm thick, which is about as thin as a sheet of paper.

Yeah, I thought that right after I posted.

Any word on the Cinelli Bolt?!
|
I'm hearing August.

I would just contact Phil Wood's service department directly. They're very easy to deal with.

I'm getting ONE loud knock out of my NDS crank arm upon take off from a stand or whenever applying full force rotating forward immediately after applying resistance/backforce. It happens once, usually only if I apply full force or weight and then goes away on normal cadence. I'm also getting some mild creakiness when applying significant backforce coming down hills or slowing down quickly. My buddy at my LBS thought it might be my BB spindle needing a clean/regrease. Did that and still happening. I'm thinking it might be the pedal(s) needing the same treatment. Your thoughts?
SRAM 300 w/gxp if that helps/matters. Thanks in advance. |
No idea. I'm a good mechanic but can't realistically diagnose creaks and clicks without having the bike in front of me.
If you happen to ride a Leader, that explains a lot. Throw the frame into the trash and get something else. |
What color socks do you favor?
|
None.
|
Thank you.
