Hey Scrod you recommended the deda zero 1 stem to me at one point what are your thoughts on the zero 2?

They're not much different except for the price.

I don't really understand why one costs so much more than the other. I guess the number two naturally costs more.

Hey Scrod, I've got a bike appraisal question. A 2013 721 with a Leader carbon fork with alloy steerer. Fyxation cockpit, Sugino RD2, generic deep vs on generic hubs. Bike has been used but not abused. What'd you say that's worth?

They're along the lines of either 3T ergonovas or FSA wing pros I bet; they're favorites among the majority of the cycling community

3T Ergonova or Deda RHM02.

The rearmost part of the flat section on the Wing Pro is a little too thin for my palms and digs into my hands too much unless I'm wearing gloves (which I don't like doing).

Yeah, we were going to buy Exustar's remaining stock when they were discontinued but the numbers were way too high and they weren't interested in splitting it up. Weird.

Scrod, this is totally unrelated to cycling, but I think I remember reading in this thread about how you used to have long dreads. Why did you decide to cut them? Do you regret it? I ask because I've had mine for about ten years and they're down to my waist, and I've been thinking of cutting them. But I can't quite work up the courage to do it.

Edit: Also, while I'm at it, does Scrod refer to the white fish of the day (I used to work in a New England seafood restaurant slinging baked stuffed scrod), or something else?

I had a quick question regarding a dimension for the rear Velo Orange Grand Cru track hub. Do you by any chance know the center-to-shoulder dimension (like the fixed hub dimensions on Sheldon Brown's chainline webpage)?

I see the center-to-flange dimension is 30mm, but I was curious as to the center-to-shoulder dimension so I can try and sort out chainline values before ordering parts. I contacted Velo Orange and they told me it was 44mm. That seems about 8mm too long and I may have not worded the question correctly in my email to them. Thanks a lot for your help.

I'm confused as to why anyone would ever actually need this measurement. If you're concerned with your chainline being a few mm off from what the internet deems "perfect" (the ever-elusive 42mm), stop losing sleep over it. Considering all brands of cogs don't have the exact same tooth to shoulder dimensions, you're never going to get it 100% right.

At any rate, my digital caliper gives me close to 36mm.

I need to buy a whole new drivetrain for my Surly. At this point i'm pretty much just looking for the longest lasting stuff. I know it's a noob question but I've never really had a really nice crankset as a reference point. I know nothing will last the distance without care, but with that out of the equation. Will something like SRAM Omniums outlast Andels? Is the difference in price mostly geared towards performance or better machining quality/stronger/better materials that will just give you overall more life?

RD2 is a good choice but 130bcd limits your chainring choices.

I'd probably go with the Miche cranks. Classic looking, 144bcd and use a reliable square-taper BB.
