Hey Scrod, first off thanks a ton for the quick and awesome service on my last order, those sparkly clear grips look sick!

To my question: I just picked up a Mavic Ellipse wheelset for a song, and sure enough my DA lockrings don't fit their weird frenchie hub threading. Do you know where I could find a couple Mavic-specific lockrings? The few websites I found who supposedly sell them, all say they're out of stock. Thanks.

You don't specifically need a Mavic lockring though. Any French-threaded track lockring (if you can find one!) will fit.

I know you've dealt with plenty of phil hubs, and philwood lockrings have annoying stepped notches. Even with hozan pliers which make them bearable, have you ever felt like using a campy/ miche lockring instead?

I recommend it to people all the time. As much as I love Phil Wood stuff, I hate their cogs and lockrings.

EAI used to make a nice Italian-threaded stainless steel lockring but they're not available anymore.

I posted their sheepish email reply when I asked them about the teeth profile of their cogs in the Today I: thread earlier today.

Any chance you can source a campy lockring for me? What about miche's? Still debating between the two and how a "nice lockring" should be paired with "nice" hubs.

Right on, we've got both Campy and Miche lockrings in stock. Still waiting to hear back from The Hive about those stainless bolts.

How do those compare to the Toshi? And what's the price on them?

They're everything Toshis are and then some but for a fraction of the price.
I know of people who have had these outlast their toshis.

They're good but they're really not as strong as Toshis. have two pairs of Exustar straps hanging around in the back room of the shop that started to wear through after about two years. My Toshis are over a year old and are showing no major signs of wear.

The Exustar straps are exactly the same as Cadence doubles (sans branding) and are a little thinner.

True but I'm pretty won over by them, they've survived well over 3 years of daily use with a hilly commute filled with plenty of climbs. (I bought them in 2011; I only bought 1 pair which I regret; had to pull up the original invoice in gmail)
Funny thing is, they replaced a pair of toshis in 2011 which I had since 2008 when that was all that was available for laminated straps and decent double straps.
Aside from that initial defective pair I received which delaminated entirely as I was pulling it through a mildly snug pair of pedals, they've been a champ.

Honestly I was skeptical and didn't even to expect them to last that long considering they were at the time, only $26 with $3 shipping from Beverly, MA to me. That pair is still on my bike and are just starting to quit in the way that the toshis it replaced did, with the pinch clamp having wore grooves in the top layer of leather.

It's even gotten to a point that people ask, if they were toshis as I've been using the same straps for so long.
All things aside, they're definitely a better value than toshis in my book.

Can I use a carbon fork with a 44mm rake/offset on the Pake Rum Runner frame? If so what are the results of the handling?

Checking Scrod's prices, the Exustars are saving you money if they last more than half as long.

Inflation has definitely taken its toll apparently in those 3 years.
Augh if scrod had them in earlier I would've bought them in person from RG instead of wabi; same price after USPS took its share from the latter and I wouldn't have had to wait a week.

In your opinion is the finish on the Shimano Dura Ace 7710 crankset better / same / worse than on a Sugino 75 crankset ? How would you rank these two cranksets cosmetically against a Campy Record Pista crankset ? Aesthetically speaking, do you have any preferances among them ?

its very similar in size to the bareknuckle so geo i feel comfortable with. however at 220 lbs i am concerned about weight with these keirin frames. should i be??

i like the looks of these bikes and aside from getting a custom jobber done this is the most affordable way i can think of getting one. just looking for folks to talk me out of it i guess

Dura Ace, Sugino 75 and Campy are all about the same as far as finish quality is concerned.

Aesthetically, I tend to gravitate toward Sugino 75 but it really depends on what bike they're going on.

Maybe? I really don't know, man. I don't see too many 220 lb Keirin racers...
