Should I move to San Diego?
*Have BA degree (Lived in Boston for school) *Looking for lifestyle, then career. *Money saved, though frugal and looking for an affordable city (well more so than nyc, la, boston ect). *No "career" at the moment but decent job experience across many fields. *Don't know a soul out there, currently living in upstate new york. I'm mostly curious as you were a m******* for sometime as well and I feel as though we share a similar outlook on life. I love the charm and aesthetics of new england/boston but I have to think the weather alone would be good enough reason to make the move out there. Thanks scrod |
Scrod -
I am picking up omnium cranks this weekend for my steel langster. They seller recommended I buy a Chris king BB. How do I measure for a BB? do they come in different lengths? I remember on my first conversion I brought an old schwinn to my LBS and there was like 2 cm stcking out of the bb shell on either side. Secondary question: Is CK a good buy for a BB? Pardon the ignorance and thanks in advance! |

Portland Design Works also makes one called the Alexander Graham Bell and I know at least as of two weeks ago J&B Importers had some in stock and I know PDW is getting more in February. So if your shop has account with J&B they hopefully could order you one or you can wait till Feb or find one of the Suzu Crane Bells

Thanks scrod I know quite a few people who have moved out here and either couldn't find work or ended up doing something they hate just to pay the bills. Also, housing is extremely hard to find here because the rental market is very aggressive and cutthroat. I say come out here and visit and do some research (if you haven't already). |

I don't want to be responsible for your life decisions. I lived all over the country when I was younger...sometimes it worked out, others it went horribly wrong and went limping back to MA to live on a friend's couch until I sorted my **** back out.

Reality sucks.
Luckily when we moved out to SD, we were bringing the shop (which we knew was going to do very well here) with us. In addition to that, Angie had just paid off her car and student loan and we were literally 100% debt-free. |

I've noticed the PDW bells run about twice as much as the Crane bells, around here anyways. Can't imagine them being twice as good of a bell, if any better at all. |
Goddamnit. I just ordered one off Amazon yesterday. I didn't even think to look at RG. Do they come with the spacer mount, or is that something you added? Amazon says little about them. |
Scrod,
I called a couple days ago about building my complete for me. You said you or Angie would call me to set up a time I could come in. I told you I get off work at 1:30. Turns out I got fired today so I can come in anytime this week except thursday afternoon. |

Since Scrod has 'em in stock unless you have a more local shop with 'em go with the Crane and I am sure they will be plenty decent. I doubt Scrod is going to stock crap at his own shop?! |

Well damn...sucks to hear you got fired! We'll figure out our schedule tomorrow and get in touch.
And alright, I look forward to hearing from you. No pressure at all either, i'm in no rush. Just excited to ride my new bike. |
Scrod!
Your thoughts on MKS GR-10 vs MKS Urban Platforms. Prices aside, any real differences between the two? Planning on cages and double straps (size 13 shoe). Currently riding GR-9 but giving them to my son. What say you, sir? |

You're using GR-9 pedals and have size 13 feet? As someone who wears size 12, I find GR-9s to be much too small (and as a rule, the GR-9 is for size 9 feet and under while the GR-10 is for size 10 and up).

Scrod,
What's the quality of the Miche cogs? They're inexpensive, but are they "cheap"? |

No, the low price of the individual cogs makes sense because you only need to buy one cog carrier.
Aight. Thanks. |
Dear Scrod, since moving just south of Dallas 7 months ago I don't have close access to bike paths like I did so I've gone from daily riding to just on the weekends. The roads out here are like Talladega for big bubba trucks hauling hay trailers. Building a sustainable farm doesn't leave much time either so my question is.....can you recommend a trainer. I know it's not the same as being out in the world but I wanna stay at the level of shape I was in more or less. Thanks in advance.

I use this one and love it. Because it has 10 resistance settings (which are controlled by a handlebar-mounted lever), it makes using a fixed gear or single speed bike on a trainer much less boring.
