Hey Scrod,

I'm looking into a new frame. It's an NJS Panasonic. It's been crashed, and so it's only $200. Basically I'm wondering what kind of damage I should look out for when I go to reinspect. It's being sold by King Kog in NYC so I feel confident they wouldn't sell something that's going to explode.

It's kind of perfect because it's my size, my favorite color (all my other bikes are chrome and black), and affordable. I won't be racing on it, just riding around with friends. Let me know what you think..!

Scrodzilla 04-28-15 03:14 PM

Personally, I wouldn't touch it.

I don't think King Kog would sell you a lemon but if you're dead set on buying it you should probably ask them a lot of questions.

Scrod,

New guy here and recently picked up a Fyxation Eastside. I'm relatively new to cycling in general but I'm loving it so far. The Eastside has a rather shoddy crankset and because of this I'm looking to replace it. I've read Andel makes a good crank and it's a great value. I'm comfortable on a 46t17t ratio and I was wondering if I should go with the standard Andel you have listed on your web store, or if I'd be doing myself a favor if I just spent a few more bucks on a Sugino/SRAM/Miche? Would there be any noticeable difference for me as a new rider? I should add I'm a heavier guy at 225 lbs, I don't know if this plays a role in crank selection/feel..

Scrodzilla 04-30-15 01:34 AM

The stock crankset on the Eastside is definitely a little noodly. Having stiff crank arms, 144 BCD and common 68x110mm JIS BB, the Andel Standard crankset is probably the best bang for the buck.

What master link will fit a KMC D101? I know they had a D101 master link a while back, just never got around to buying it. My LBS had a KMC quick link like this (not sure if thats the exact model) and it wasn't wide enough.

Scrodzilla 05-01-15 05:27 PM

Your pretty much screwed.

jlafitte 05-01-15 05:50 PM

Just wondering... what did one do before the "master link" was invented?

They had to be super dooper careful not to push the pin out all the way and simply rejoin the chain on the bike by pushing said pin back.
If they weren't super dooper careful and ended up pushing the pin out all the way they paid the price by having to fumble around the pin trying to push it back.

jared1988 05-01-15 08:52 PM

I tried my old master link and a spare link I had but the pins were too short.

KMC does not sell an individual master link that will fit that chain. The only chains that come with one having pins long enough are the D101, X101 and 415H.

Though the KMC K710SL comes with a quicklink now.

Damn. So get smaller chain/cog, buy a new chain, or hope someone has an extra D101/X101/415H link laying around lol. Thanks for the assistance!

It's too small for the D101.

Recommendations for a 26.8 seat post with set back and in black that isn't ****. Stupid kilo tt

Scrodzilla 05-16-15 08:26 PM

If you don't want to spring for a Thomson, I'm afraid all you're going to find will be Kalloy.

GENESTARWIND 05-16-15 09:07 PM

My seat post doesn't sit high enough for the Thompson's bend

Scrodzilla 05-16-15 09:09 PM

The Origin8 Pro Fit isn't any higher quality than Kalloy, but it's a 2-bolt post that comes in 26.8. No setback or anything (I wish the Grand Cru came in other sizes), but I prefer 2 bolts to one. Apparently Kalloy used to make a 2 bolt as well in 26.8, but I couldn't find one when looking a month ago, so I went with the origin8. Not great, but it does the job.

Scrodzilla 05-17-15 09:04 AM

He said he wanted a setback post, hence why I didn't mention the Origin8.

Ah, yeah reading is fundamental and apparently I can't do it because I missed that bit. I wanted setback too but decided I wanted two bolt more and now my bike looks dumb with the saddle back all the way, but that's the way it goes sometimes. I'd been really hoping someone made something in a 25.4 that I could shim, but couldn't find what I wanted.
