Hey, this is going to be a lot of questions sorry!!

I thought aventon's had a bad rep? how come to you they seem like a pretty decent aluminum frame because earlier you had said that the mataro and the state are comparable and the aventon is even better due to their seatpost size.

2nd question i've looked through a few pages to see if any information would help me but you seem to absolutely hate leader now although a while back you had said that they had stepped up their game and are actually okay now

3rd question i'm going for a new build and i wanted to know if buying an izumi super toughness chain would be a big difference from the chain i had previously the kmc710

4th question I'm considering the engine 11 frame for my new build what is are your thoughts on that frame and if it isn't very good do you have another suggestions for that price range

5th question Does having a lo pro geometry make the rider any faster?(sorry if it is a stupid question) is the geometry actually beneficial or really just there for looks.

6th question what wheel set should i try and get if im looking for lightness and just general good quality i was looking at the mavic ellipses

The whole 'Aventon/Leader' thing has been very well-documented right here in various places on this forum and I'm sick of talking about it. If you can find the little bits of information you've managed to dig up, I'm sure you're capable of finding the rest of the story.

As for your other questions, they're all over the place and I am not Google. There's a lot of readily-available information on the internet and it would be cool if you could at least make an attempt to research a few things on your own before coming to me for advice.

oh, okay thanks anyway scrod :)

Not Scrod. Not answering for Scrod, as I see he has already addressed your post. Just for conversation's sake.

I'd never heard of Engine 11 so I checked them out. Some of those bikes have some seriously oddball geometry. Either that or their charts are whacked out. The "Sprinter" seems like it would be unstable.

Hey Scrod, would a Park Tool SR-1 work on 1/8" fixed cogs or is it solely for cassettes? A buddy of mine broke my chain whip on accident and bought me an SR-1 as a replacement - but I'm thinking I may have needed an SR-18.

Scrodzilla 06-23-16 10:27 AM

The SR-1 will work on a 3/32" fixed cog but not 1/8".

If you replace the 3/32" chain on the tool with a 1/8" chain, you'll essentially have an SR-18. You probably could've fixed your old chainwhip just as easily...

Mr Scrodman,

My Campy Record Pista cranks 170mm just barely knick the chainstays on this On One Pompino frame I picked up. I am fairly confident that going to a 165mm crankset will fix the problem, but I am kinda liking the 170mm cranks feel. Also when I look at the Campy crankset they seem rather beefy.

So my question is do you know of any "lower profile" cranks that might give me more clearance compared to the Campys? only ask that they be 144bcd. thank you ahead of time.

Scrodzilla 06-24-16 08:25 AM

Assuming you're using a 111mm bottom bracket you could always just swap it out for one having a 115mm spindle, which would move your crank arms out 2mm per side. Your chainline will move out 2mm as a result but that's hardly a big deal.

The Campy Veloce BB is available in 115mm.

pwebb 06-25-16 10:24 AM

current BB is 111 so I'll give the 115 a shot. thanks

Scrodzilla 07-13-16 04:32 PM

Scrodzilla 07-15-16 10:27 AM

I'll talk to my Shimano guy and see if I can come up with something.

What would be better to remove paint from a frame? Sandblasting professionally or using a paint stripper?

Scrodzilla 07-15-16 11:50 AM

Sandblasting is much less hassle than paint stripper.

Hey Scrod, I picked up a used Easton EC90 TKO track wheelset, which uses a cog carrier system that looks a lot like the Miche one. It only came with a 15t cog, and I'd like to have a 14t on hand as well, but haven't had any luck finding the official Easton track cogs available anywhere. Also Easton's website is broken, I can't get contact info for any local Oregon dealers through their weird contact page. Do you know a) if the Miche cogs you stock work with Easton TKO carriers (I am pretty sure not, just confirming) so b) where can I order an Easton cog? Part #4104835. Thanks.

Scrodzilla 07-15-16 05:11 PM

The Miche cog definitely won't work.

Easton TKO uses a Shimano Hyperglide-style spline so any Shimano-splined cog will work, like the Surly splined cogs (3/32") or Halo Fat Foot cogs (1/8") .

Oh wow, those Halo Fat Foots look radder, are cheaper, and go all the way down to 12t!? Perfect, thanks so much.

Scrodzilla 07-15-16 07:15 PM

No prob! I can order them from one of our suppliers if you can't find them anywhere.

Sand or media blasting, especially if you're going to have it powdercoated (which I would), they'll do it all in one visit.

Dear scrod,

I'm eyeing a used cinelli parallax which for some unexplainable reason is missing the original headset that came with it.

Am I correct to assume that a replacement tapered headset like the tapered cane creek 40 or FSA C-40 could take its place without surprises?
