Scrodzilla 11-10-11 09:30 PM

Yay.

Is $40 for a used(in good shape) Thomson Elite seat post a good deal?

Dannihilator 11-10-11 10:01 PM

If it's the correct size and length, it is.

What are your thoughts on this;
http://www.chromeindustries.ca/bags/...---medium.html

I'm a student and I ride everywhere with my bike and am sometimes on public transportation.
Reviews seem fantastic, but none seem to tell me if the essential problem with swinging bags are solved with this bag. Do you know anything about this?

EpicSchwinn 11-11-11 02:48 AM

Pm'd homebrew on this but figured someone else might be curious.

It's actually 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generations that were prone to failure and the 4th and final was deemed safe. This article goes over it in detail: http://pistarice.blogspot.com/2008/1...iff-wheel.html

Never used a Chrome bag. Sorry!

I have the largest size chrome shoulder bag and i love it. i have fit 2 six packs, chips, and some bread and meat and cheese and still had some room to spare. it is amazing. and it holds up greatly. and as far as swinging bags, i dont really know what you are talking about, but if you mean the bag swings off your shoulder or your back when you are riding, i havent had any problems with that either, even when i am not using the load strap to strap under your arm to secure it. my bag always seems very stable on my back. i would recommend it, but it would be nicer to have PAC bag as you can carry more and they have big straps you can strap boxes too. but for you i think the chrome would be good.
wait. if you mean if you can use it on your left or right shoulder, the bags only swing one way

Where can I find a 22.2mm clamp 1" rise bar? I am trying to make use of my thomson bmx stem

Jaytron 11-12-11 11:22 AM

Scrod,

Can I use an older style nutted brake, on a fork that is drilled for a recessed brake? I'm guessing yes, with a washer, but I thought I'd make sure.

There are a few at danscomp but they're all like 80-90 lb rider limit.

I do, after I already drilled my fork for a recessed nut. Is this a newer fork or an older fork you drilled? I use steel knurled washers to make sure nothing moves

I may have to get a newer fork, since I'm having trouble finding a 21.1mm quill stem with a shorter extension.

Scrodzilla 11-12-11 12:08 PM

You can use a washer and a standard nut.

Also, there's got to be a bunch of co-ops around San Jose. One of them probably has an old Schwinn quill stem sitting around somewhere.

This is a 7/8" (tube size) BMX. Be aware that a 1" tube uses a 7/8" (22.2mm) actual quill size, which parts sites like to quote even though the size is always quoted based on the steerer tube.

Harris has a few in stock, although it may not have the rise you want:

Older Schwinns had a thicker steerer tube, hence the 21.1mm quill. So while it's still a 1" tube, I am 100% sure on the quill stem diameter.

I saw Harris' 21.15 stems while on my hunt, and they're quite disgusting :P

EpicSchwinn 11-12-11 02:13 PM

Time to get to work on that head tube brah
