I had a Phil rear hub and thought it was stupid. They're heavy and mine kept slipping forward despite how hard I cranked down the bolts. DA hubs are nice but I wouldn't want to mess with servicing the bearings. I'd probably go with the low-flange DA 7710 hubs, which have sealed bearings.

Last night, I saw a commercial where people met up and had a fixie group ride on glow-in-the-dark bicycles. Some with Arrospok wheels no less.
Has the shark been jumped? Should I go back to riding scraper bikes? |
See here.

The VAG light?
It's worse than I thought. Next thing you know, Justin Bieber will be riding a fixie. |
Don't tempt him

Why do you say low-flange over high? I thought high flange hubs allowed for shorter spokes and more tension causing them to not go out of true as much, or something like that.

Scrod - Will a banned person still get my PM's? I'm supposed to send solbro a PM.
|
I'm not sure. Ask Tom.

High flange is loose-ball, low flange ain't. It's a matter of practicality if you're riding in the street and don't wanna service your bearings every so often. (But goddamn the 7600 series high flange hubs are so sexy.)
as in dura ace low flange hubs have now cartridge bearings? the low flange da i had a few years ago was lose ball, kinda sealed with rubber dust caps but not to well would be awesome if they got cartridge bearings now, i would buy one edit: still lose ball http://techdocs.shimano.com/media/te...9830647971.pdf |
Shimano doesn't do cartridge for hubs

The 7710 (NJS) is sealed and is still very smooth and maintenance free. NJS because they race in rain which isn't recommended for the needle bearing. It would require cleaning and repacking after getting wet." |
I don't think it's a problem. If you pack enough grease the excess gets pushed out around the seal and through normal use grease gets pushed out towards the seals, so there's always some barrier. Use some waterproof marine grease if you're so inclined.
/not scrod Maybe ask the MTB forum for their opinions on loose ball hubs. |
Suppose you thought the black Leader 721 was just about the sexiest frame around and you had decided to build a SS road bike around one. Now suppose you were going to start with the bottom bracket and crankset and you wanted to merge form and function the best you could and money was not an issue, what would your first choices be?

I've got Sugino 75s and a Protype BB on both my bikes, so that's most likely what I would choose.
|
Scrod,
Any idea what size seat post collar I need for a Draft Lite? Has a 27.2mm seat post. Seeing a lot of 31.6, does that sound right? |

I love it and have no problems with the BB at all.

what makes Chris King headsets 3x as much as FSA
|
They have very good customer service in my experience. Not sure if that's the 3x part, though.
