The spacing on the rear hub actually... got wider? I first noticed it when my axle nut, fully tightened, was flush with the axle itself, whereas it usually tightens past it. Do I even make sense? I'll go take pictures right now!

Also, how's stock on the Kagero looking? I should have enough money by the end of the week.

Well your frame spacing is not going to be exactly 120mm; there has to be some wiggle room to put/ remove the wheel. ;)

Of yeah nearly forgot,

hmm. Well, what exactly is that little black thing that spins along the axle? It has a flat surface on each side. I could spin the inner one, but not the outer one, and there's a washer in between.

It's a spacer.

Scrod, why don't you run clipless?

hairnet 10-25-11 10:35 AM

What is the bain of Scrodzilla?

ddeadserious 10-25-11 12:17 PM

Scrod, do you think it would be possible to set up a teleportation service, so customers don't have to wait for their bike parts to arrive?

Steel chainstays are fairly flexible, so they're generally a bit wider than the exact spacing: When you bolt the wheel on, they squeeze together against the spacers. It's possible to go the other way and squeeze in a slightly larger hub, or cold set (read: bend) the chainstays out to handle a much larger hub. There are a lot of people who do this to fit a modern 7/8 speed cassette hub in a nice vintage frame.

- 50% larger than Scrod

I tried a while back and wasn't very fond of it.

We've been experimenting but so far I can only make things move about five feet.

Well, actually, I mean the the spacer itself moved outwards on the axle. So when tightened the nut sits flush with the axle. I was more wondering if there's any danger involved with that.

(in the picture you can see a gap right near the fixed side of the hub, it's supposed to sit right there if I'm not mistaken)

Scrod, how does one become a mighty moderator? There are people here that have higher post counts, just as much knowledge, and aren't. How does the process work? Is there a panel? What color smoke comes out of Tom.Stormcrowe's chimney when one is chosen?

BoozyMcliverRot 10-25-11 02:54 PM

Dear Scrod

Why is the post a saddle mounts to called a seat post and not a saddle post?Or why is the saddle not called a seat?

A seat is something you sit on with all your weight on your bum. Saddles you straddle and do not rest all your weight on. Idk why seat posts are called that

Scrod,

What's your unbiased opinion on Leader risers and the Nitto B259 Urban Riser (i think they just gave it a new name/number)?

both are the same price
leaders have 2 degree sweep vs. 12 for the nitto correct? which is more comfy?
i have a old cinelli stem that is more of a matte silver than straight chrome, id like to get as close as i can too that. the nittos look a little more matte i think....

thankssss

Scrodzilla 10-25-11 06:08 PM

The 'Urban' model is cro-mo, not aluminum like the B259AA.

I honestly can't tell you which bars you'll find more comfortable. I've got Nittos, Angie has Leader risers and I find the sweep on the Nittos a bit much at times.

homebrewk 10-25-11 06:12 PM

I see you have a single cross lever up on the site... does this mean Angie is brakeless now?

Scrodzilla 10-25-11 06:45 PM

No, they came in a pair and she's using the left side.

homebrewk 10-25-11 07:11 PM

Oh.

Sherblock 10-25-11 08:27 PM

Why is it when I click on the most recent post on the SSFG forum I get to a post around the 3rd to last page?

This Kilo TT ad says the fork is partially threaded and you could finish threading it. Is there a special dye for bike forks?

Before you advice to run threadless, I want to run threaded so that I could use a Nitto Jaguar NJS stem.

hamfoh 10-25-11 09:12 PM

scrod, how do I know when the usb chargers are gtg?

edit:

and what are the name of those straps that go around your pant leg so you don't have to roll it up?

We call them leg straps. I've also heard 'leg bands' and 'cuff clips.'

emailed FSA to double check before i placed an order. just to follow up on this, turns out there is a specific crown race for the ZS3. the item is H6053 (ZS-3-6 crown race), for purchase the parts number is 160-5476

Leukybear 10-25-11 10:33 PM

Dear scrod,

I noticed you've stocked the loose ball SG75 BB; are you tempted to try it?
