To accurately measure your actual inseam, stand barefoot and jam a book (or something similar) up into your crotch and pull up on it as much as you can without causing discomfort. While holding it perfectly level, have someone measure the distance between the top of said book and the floor.

jimmytango 11-04-11 06:41 PM

Cool, thanks. 36 inches. Yeah, I'm a tall dude that's mostly torso.

calv 11-04-11 07:12 PM

Most torso? How tall are you? lol

jimmytango 11-04-11 09:27 PM

6'5"

It doesn't really piss me off but because of that, we're stuck with a stupid hyphen.

You can always camp out the domain; snatch it up when it expires and the owner doesn't renew. Swap over the domain and set up a redirect from the old.

Scrod,

What the hell type of BB is this? Can it be replaced with a newer, cartridge type?

Scrodzilla 11-05-11 04:47 PM

You should be able to replace it with a newer BB. However, don't fix it it it ain't broke.

I gave it a test ride on the rollers and it's making all kinds of nasty noise hahaha. Can I overhaul it myself by cleaning/regreasing? I don't know anything about bikes this old wtf.

Scrodzilla 11-05-11 05:01 PM

It should be pretty easy. You can remove that lockring with a standard lockring tool and see what kind of a mess you've got going on inside.

Dear Scrod,

What is your favorite thread (besides this one of course) in the history of SSFG?

Soo__Fuego 11-05-11 09:35 PM

Recommend some tubes?

I have some Specialized 700x20/28 tubes and some Specialized 700x23 tires and I keep getting flats. I have Velox rim tape, I installed a thin tape and after flats my LBS installed new tubes with wider tape. Still getting pinched tubes.

Tomorrow I will grab the dremel and stone bit then smooth out the spoke holes in the DP18's

hairnet 11-05-11 10:22 PM

if your tape covers the holes then they cover the holes and dremeling wont help. You're probably not inflating your tires enough and running over some bad bumps/cracks/pot holes.

So I took out the tube to see where it was damaged. Correct, the new wider rim tape is doing good as the puncture is no where near the holes that were causing problems before. This tube has a hole by the base of the valve. Common problem or under inflated, bump etc etc etc?

I think hairnet needs his own thread.

That's a very common problem with DP18s. Make sure there are no burrs around the inside of the valve hole. It also may help to cover the valve hole with a piece of electrical tape and poke a hole just big enough for the valve to go through. If it won't stick, put it under the Velox tape.

Soo__Fuego 11-06-11 05:36 PM

Two more tubes down the drain ....... unridden btw.

I added a lil extra around the valve last night and these two that tore today where not around the valve ............... wtf is going on? They were pumped to about 100psi and left sitting next to me while I watched tv today. Two minutes later psssssshhhhhhh ...................

yummygooey 11-06-11 05:52 PM

You're supposed to tape all the way around the rim.

Soo__Fuego 11-06-11 05:57 PM

Lol I know, thats just a lil something extra around the valve area.

Maybe, but you're confusing me. When you last installed the tubes and let them sit for two minutes, did you have rim tape around 100% of the rim or did you not? I ask because the marks you're pointing at line up PERFECTLY with the spoke holes around that little piece of rim tape that you put down.

You understand that it might look like a tiny little bubble on the tube, but that's because it shrunk back down to size. When the hole is there, it expands and fills up that entire cavity and eventually touches the spoke nipple, spoke, or gets shredded from the hole itself.

Assuming I'm not giving you enough credit (very likely!!) show us a photo with the rim tape completely installed. Maybe you're using something too thin or something....beats me!

Oops! I didn't realize this was the "Ask trevor_ash" thread. Don't mind me.

What Scrod says: open it up, clean it out. Chances are a pitiful few $$$ investment for new bearings is all it needs.

But what frame is that? Looks like fillet-brazed steel.

;-P

I can't help it. So much gets asked here and in Carleton's thread instead of ending up as separate threads

Scrodzilla 11-06-11 08:32 PM

Can you imagine if every question asked here and in Carleton's thread were an individual topic? What a total **** show that would be.
