Dear Scrod,
Did that bmw dude get the banhammer? I could never decide whether I thought his posts were partially funny or if he was just a full-on *****

Dave, I have a question about my friends chain. Can one stiff link possibly cause the whole chain to be stiff? Because it feels like **** when I spin my housemates kilo. When I look at the cog, the chain seems to be "sticking" onto that vuelta cog. Can't get it to spin smooth..

Try using both hands on each side of the tight link and twisting the chain in every direction; that usually loosens it up. Don't use TOO MUCH force, though.

Yeah that's what I tried earlier, no luck. Do stiff links look like they're totally sticking to the cog as it rotates? I think it's because since my park tool chain tool is a little crooked, I noticed that one of the links looked slightly bent at the end. But even when that specific link wasn't in the cog or the chainring it still felt really bad and resistant.. Something must be going on here

I'm obviously forgetting this is the thread where people ask Scrod questions and he answers them. My bad.

Yeah, that's really weird. A stiff link wouldn't cause the whole chain to be wacky. The only thing I can think of is that the cog was machined incorrectly. Do you have another back wheel you could throw on real quick to see if it does the same thing with a different cog?

I had a feeling that's what it was. The way it was just sticking to the cog didn't look right at all. Sometimes it didn't even look like it was sitting properly. I'll swap on this 16 dura ace i just picked up and see what's up.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Scrod,
Did you attend, or otherwise care about the American Nightmare reunion show in Boston last night?

What's the best way to convince my parents to go (or sneak in to) The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo?

This might belong in RG, but I thought I could get a better response here.
How would the IRD Defiants work on a 722? Any comparisons between those and the Sugino RD2's (which I'm currently running)? I don't think I'm quite ready, or even need, Sugino 75's yet, but I do want a nice crankset.

The Defiants will be stiffer and - in my opinion - better looking than the RD2s and will work just fine.

My protype BB came in the mail today and I installed it. I've never installed a crankset before, but it was pretty straightforward. My question is about the spindle/crank arm interface. I have maybe 4-5mm of spindle showing between the crank arm and bottom bracket shell. I can't seem to push the crank arm down the spindle any further. Is this how your 75/protype bb setup looks?
