Fork me!
I've been looking for a new fork and I've been weighing a few options. It needs to be 1" threaded, chromed, as close to 38mm rake as possible and under $100
Origin8 makes a track fork that's all of those things and only costs $40 on citygrounds. The only thing that makes me nervous is the only review I could find said the following.
I know my headset is 26.4. Can anyone confirm or deny this reviewer's claims?
The other one I've seen is the straight blade fork on retrogression for $68. Would 41mm rake be at all noticeable compared to 38?
Any opinions or other options are appreciated!

Not the highest grade steel fork and definitely not the lightest, this fork is still great in a fixed gear conversion of an old steel bike. Mine was a schwinn super le tour. That said, the most annoying part of getting this fork was setting the crown race. It comes out of the bag with a 27mm crown race and for any legitimate headset, I had to take it to a specialty shop to have it ground down to a 26.2, so be warned. Once the race was set, the 1" threaded steer tube tightened as expected and the fork performed well on my 10+ mile commutes.

Not chrome, but since you seem to be interested in lightweight components:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/LEADER-S805-...3#ht_831wt_907
Also 44mm rake.
So not really at all what you're looking for... But it's threaded and less than $100.

To answer the first question about the crown race: A dremel with a sanding drum will knock down the fork crown diameter quickly. Just sand it down a little, try to press the race on, remove, repeat. This is one of the few jobs where I prefer to take the bike to the shop, as it's pretty easy to trash a headset or the fork by trying to ham-hand it.
38 -> 41mm isn't likely to be a difference you'll notice. Differences in axle-to-crown lengths are likely to play a bigger role in how your bike handles. Trial and error is really the only way to know for sure. For my money, I'd go with Scrod's fork (but I'm a retro-gression shill).

The Retrogression straight blade fork is really good looking IMO, and I doubt you're going to feel much of a difference in 3mm of rake.

Thanks for all the input!
@jdgesus & striknein - I think I'll steer clear of that one then (no pun intended)
@jaytron - I'm just not a big fan of carbon forks on skinny tubed steel bikes. Also I see a box section wheelset with gumwalls in this bike's future which probably would look weird with el carbón.
I think I'll end up doing the retrogression fork.

That retrogression fork looks really really similar to the fork on my 08 madison. I was trying to find a geo chart to see if it was a copy. Any insight scrod? I happened to be one of those who was cursed with a madison with the steerer tube cut too short to accomodate spacers. If it really is a replica or super close I may be tempted.

It's not the same fork. The fork blades are thinner and more round on the forks we sell.
However, the Leader S803 steel fork is the exact same fork found on the Madison.

A couple MM might cause a slight change of handling, but this is already on a 27" to 700c conversion, correct?

He's putting it on his new Soma Rush frame. I don't think 3mm will be any kind of big deal.

$127, so a little over $100, but its sooo worth it.
i think a straight forks are ugly if your going for a classic look
seems like the only difference between this and the straight one on retrogression is the angle of the lugs. i prefer the straighter look.

I agree that the curved forks look better on classic inspired builds. If the Excel fork retrogression sells came in a 1" threaded I would've opted for that. I think the tight geo of the rush will be able to pull off a straight fork alright though. I'm anxious to see how the lolergy will look on this build. Thinking about snagging an all silver wheelset.

I happen to like straight blade forks better. A classic example of "to each his own".

Khaki Green. I thought it was a fairly unique color but still classy.
