ryan, habitus, neuron - thanks, RELoad Seattle once again delivers. Great company for sure. as far as timeframe, they are on schedule. solidly on schedule. and charlesw - "wheel strap"-I believe Ceya is referring to the metal buckles on the old DeMartinis and how they were the best when it came for heavy ***** getting strapped to your bag and staying put. Not plastic buckles to accidently release or break under duress. S/F< CEYA! |

As for "wheel strap"... how many people here have had to ride home with a busted up wheel strapped to your back? It took a long time for me to get the grease stain off my bag after that sad ride. jeff Me and the guys with racing wheels going to the velodrome. S/F< CEYA! |
It's nice to hear all this talk of RELoad as I'm trying to decide what bag to get to replace my old Timbuk2. However, no one has addressed my question re: rib sticking with the RELoad. does the buckle stick in your ribs? Thats my big problem with the Timbuk2. Anyone?
|
no rib stickage here

anyone have any used "messanger bags" they're looking to sell? I need something to get me through the next few months, but waaaaay to broke to plunk down $75-$150 for something decent. I'm looking for an ok size and waterproofness. My backpack sucks in the rain. Around the same size though. (It's just an school backpack!)
Just thought I'd ask. :) |

165, that bag is sweet. I am now inspired.
On an unrelated note...can a mod fix the spelling inthe thread title? Yes, it's bugging me that much. |

Any suggestions on bag size? If I get a 15"H x 19"W x 10"D and don't fill it I dont want all this extra bag hanging around.

I just ordered a chrome backbone from my source. I've had a kremlin and a citizen. Plus a timbuk2. In my opinion a single shoulder messenger bag is great if you do alot of opening when the bag is on your shoulder. In my case im not taking the bag off often enough to justify it over a 2 shoulder bag. Plus i got it for a great price and a girl i know here can put anything custom i want on it for the price of materials.

The reload buckle won't poke you.
they're backpack is a damn sight better than Chromes too, I worked for a company that got al their guys the backbones so they'd look "uniform" when riding around, after about a month the only ones still using them were guys that'd used them to replace plain old daypack style backpacks and were limited in what the could carry, everyone else started using their shoulder bags again cept 2 guys that got Reloads as replacements and one guy that just went back to his Dank. Chrome does have a new backack style now, not as cheap as the backbone so maybe it actually works. |
Yes, but its a timbuk2 which I guess isn't very "messenger"
PM me jeff

I have a question for those with the chrome bag.
I'm a relatively small guy at 5'8" 165lbs but would like to be able to carry my art portfolio to class amoung other books and not have a ridiculously too large bag. The portfolio measures 26" by 20". Does anyone have any idea wether the chrome metropolis will fit this freaking portfolio or will have have to get the ginormous kremlin for it? Open to other ideas as well. |
don't think it will fit in the metropolis. well you could put it in there but it would be sticking out.

I have a PAC Designs Ultimate OS with the X-Strap. Normally this bag would be a king's randsom but I scored a deal on ebay at the end of last summer. Before the PAC I had a Chrome Citizen, which I loved, but it was just too small to lug all my crap to and from work during winter, which sees a doubling of what I carry during warmer times. The PAC is extremely well made and I imagine it will last a very long time. The X-Strap is amazing for carrying super heavy loads. I've ridden with a frame and wheelset attached to the bag and it wasn't horribly uncomfortable. I can also pack a week, or two weeks, worth of groceries into it with room to spare. The one thing that I liked about the Chrome bag was its relative ease of adjustments. The PAC bag complicates things a bit more with the ten or so places you can fine tune the fit. If for any reason a couple of the straps gets loosened it's something of a hassle to get things back to where they were. All in all the PAC is a great bag and worth, at the least, what I paid for it. However, I'm going to have to get something smaller for when it warms up again, the PAC will be like wearing a blanket in an oven come summer.
I've included some pics of the bag for the visual folks. Dave |
Alexi and Dave, thanks for the input so far. My only concern would be that the kremlin will be too large on the days I won't be carrying the portfolio. Dave, is your archival print box very deep?
|
Our Heavy Gear bag would swallow that portfolio whole and five others besides, but it would be much larger than you would want empty. Our Messential would hold it and some books and stuff and probably fit you just right, also the strap extensions could hold it on the outside of the bag if you had a bunch of stuff inside the bag. Also look at ReLoad, Bailey and such, I say this as with the portfolio you'll likely be most comfy with something that has angular lines like a traditional messenger bag. The chrome is teardrop shaped and bass mouthed.
Whatever you choose have fun with it, riding with a portfolio is a curse and a blessing, more exercise against the wind and a free ride with it. |
