Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? I always associate that style of engraving with fancy guns, particularly shotguns. And while I appreciate the art and the workmanship, to me it looks out of place on a bicycle, particularly a part with modern styling.

The decorations on the Merlin are contemporary and actually blended quite well the rest of the bike. They also have that classic timelessness that probably will never go out of style.

I hadn't thought about cutting them on a CNC mill. Obviously would have been done to the individual tube before it was welded.

The mystery just adds to the appeal.
Google says the Cyrene was laser-engraved. Looks pretty neat.

Thanks, I actually tried Googling it too, but apparently my Google Foo is inferior.

No amount of fancy engraving will make that crankset look good.

If so I am happy to see it again. I love the french Shamal (old Mavic wheel that was polished out). I wish more people would make stuff like this still. Just for the sheer fun of it. These and bringing back foot pegs for fixed gears like they did back in the 1900s

Hellz yeah. Like they had back in the olden days. Nothing for tricks just for relaxing while going down hill.

On RAGBRAI I saw a dude on a fixed Land Shark (in red, white and blue splatter paint) with pegs on the rear.

I believe that pegs on the fork were a carryover from the Penny Farthings where an "endo" could cause serious injury. Having your feet forward, changed the dynamic from a "header" to a "footer" increasing the chances of landing on your feet as opposed to your head.

On a modern bike (ie safety bike) the pegs actually make more sense in the back because they don't affect steering and can be placed lower.

Of course, with the advent of the free wheel "bombing pegs" have been abandoned.

I know that this bike has an intended purpose and is built and designed for it, but all I see is total JA.
