Some of you may remember about a couple of months ago i posted a thread about buying a new bike. Originally, i wanted to buy a Cervelo Track Bike, but seeing how it was too expensive for me at the time, I had to go with the Bianchi Super Pista. This is a picture of the bike i put together

So basically, it's like the best bike i have ever owned and cost me alittle over 2400 for the parts and to build. Now, on the other thread people were trying to convince me not to buy the bike, 'cause it's stupid for a man who makes a little over ten - eleven dollars an hour to ride a really expensive bike; and then proceeded to state the many reasons why this is just a bad idea.

Let me get to the point, for some reason, without any rational thought, i decided to use this bike to make my runs for the day and then went to my class at night (I'm a student). I had planned to wrap the frame and remove the stickers from the tires to make it appear less flashy, however it was the first day and i still hadn't got the wrapping yet or bothered to remove the stickers.

During class, we had a break, so i came down to check on the bike at about 7:40 pm. Following that class ended at 9:15 pm. I came down to find my Fuhgetdaboutit chain sprawled on the floor and my American Lock cut just underneath a mail box.

Now, you can imagine how long it would take me to save up that kind of money, thankfully i had a big tax refund so that helped me a little. All in all, I think I learned my lesson today. Would i have been happier if I could have rode the bike for more than a day? I guess we will never know.

That sucks, I'm sorry that your bike was stolen.

Fyi, i decide to get a higher paying job and I writing this to help me get over the loss of the bike, but honestly I am still really pissed off; at myself actually for being an idiot, and no writing this post didn't make me feel any better althou i hoped it would. FML

I usually say something along the lines of: getting your **** stolen is an excuse to get more, better ****! But I cannot say that about you as it looks like you have really splurged beyond your means on this purchase. I completed building my "dream ride" a couple of months back and I have never locked it for more than 5 minutes. That has been my rule since day one. I know this does not help, but hopefully other peeps will learn from your expensive mistake.

Anyway, if I start to see a funky-colored/painted Super Pista (stolen steeds end up this way) around BK, I'll drop you a line.

his bike got stolen while he was in class. That could've happened to anyone of us. It sounds like he has a better lock than most of us too. Now I think you were testing the limits locking it up at night. Hopefully you registered that lock

A $2400 bike is going to class with me. Hell, I took my Huffy in the building with me when I had to stay in the lab at night.

Maybe so - getting a bike stolen really sucks - but as Jaytron touched upon and I quoted from his other thread, he was an overly-cocky brat about not getting his bike stolen before he even had it.

If someone tells me to **** off and then falls down a flight of stairs, I'm not going to have much sympathy if he gets hurt.

I've seen the videos of people stealing their own bikes to illustrate just how easy it is in broad daylight surrounded by thousands of New Yorkers who didn't say a word to them. Battery powered grinders, massive bolt cutters, etc. Big city thieves want your bike, they'll get it.

Not true: I saw an ugly fixie getting hammered at by some dude in downtown Manhattan: I went into an office building lobby and told the security guards. They in turn shooed him away (to another fixie prolly)

bbattle wasn't implying that happens 100% of the time - but it happens more than enough.

I will say this: not many people would come back here and even tell us that his bike got stolen after that initial thread. I'd probably slink away and never return under the same username. So on some level I gotta respect OP for that. Plus, it does suck to get your bike stolen no matter how impractical a build it was or how cocky you were about your lock job.

What a ****ty story. And by ****ty I mean it's really sad that bike didn't belong to someone who wasn't a cocky brat and would probably still be riding it right now.
