Hey guys I played bike polo for the first time last week and had a hell of a good time. So many different bikes and owners and it was a pretty fun group of people.

Right now im running a new eighthinch scrambler v3 with rear brake/freewheel 34/20 for polo and 34/16 for riding around. (will get pictures up tonight for you) Still getting used to it coming from dual brakes. Used to have big ol downhill bars/fixed gear and sucked butt in Charleston because everyone was faster than me and I could not reach over my left side. Previous set up is a dawes sst Frankenstein bike.

Lots of people have started ordering custom Marino bikes. I havent seen one yet because we're not at that level yet. Most I see use anything cheap. Garage sales, pawn shop, and trash bin mountain or road are where it's at!

I just finished building up a new Joust a few weeks ago. Really is the way to go, ain't nothing handle like it, ain't nothing built like it.
Have it set up 36/22 for polo, though I think I'll be switching it to 36/20 fixed and taking off the rear brake shortly.

Orange is one for a friend. Purple is mine. Nice low ratios and dual brakes for commuting/I havent bought dual brake levers yet.

Rob, I tried fixed and found shots harder and I was less bully. Can you handle it?

If you are starting out, get a freewheel. You wont think it is a big deal now, but in a year or so you will realize you would rather be playing on a freewheel, and its a lot harder to change at that point.

I'm still new at playing polo and have only done it fixed. Fixed isn't too bad for me but ss would be much easier for being goalie as you can adjust your feet regardless of where you stop. I need to get my other bike setup son can play on it.i have a feeling it will be much better.

Dont play goalie too much. It is a skill worth having, but it is also where you can hide. Dont hide.

As someone who is having this problem I completely agree

Clips man, clips! I can pedal backwards to cover the back door or shoot forward super easy on a fixed.

I'm going to look at clips tomorrow. I just got my kilo together tonight and I seem to be having a problem with toe overlap and I think clips will position my feet better and hopefully avoid overlap as well as the other benefits.

As far as goalie goes I haven't played it much but the last game I played the other two players I had didn't seem to want to alternate with me. I think they were too worried about losing plus they are faster players than I am at the moment lol. The other guys were much more newbie friendly.

I am really enjoying playing as I think it's the most fun I've had on a bike in a long time. It's so rewarding to make your own stuff too like mallets, covers and such. Gives each player such personality.

I wouldn't think the Kilo would be a good bike for polo. That's like using FGFS for touring. You're gonna have a bad time.

The kilo's geometry really shines at high speeds, where toe overlap doesn't matter. The toe overlap is pretty dang extreme on mine (at slow speeds) even with a clipless set up.

Lots of polo peps run a small (155-165) to fix this problem. Might do the trick on most bikes.
