Mercier Kilo TT. What is your inseam? Maybe you'll fit a 44cm. Take a look around here -> https://bikesdirect.com/products/mercier/kilott.htm. They only have 44cm ones in stock, so if you fit it, you might be in luck.

SoCal + "fixie" + new + wants a bike that looks nice + doesn't need a helmet. I'm detecting moderate levels of hipster-ism. Therefore I will suggest Thruster + rattlecan paint job.
Stay safe OP . . . find something with a front brake at least.
And also, sup.

If you want something budget and good to start with, I recommend the Pure Fix, I currently have one myself (The Romeo) and I love it. Riding it on a Single speed for daily commute.

I grew up in Fullerton
I assume you are going to Cal State F. Im in Newport now.
Go to the city grounds in Costa Mesa, that would be the closest fixed gear/track focused shop i know of in the area.

Damn near anything you buy is going to have a flip flop hub. Almost all of the BD offerings, which are better than pure fix and mostly cheaper too, will have a flip flop hub. A good majority of them will also have a fixed cog and freewheel included as well.

There's a new "I NEED A FIXXXXIIEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!" thread every week from people that don't feel like doing a little reading. Only reason this got to a second page is the shameless 'supping. Speaking of which, where's Chelseaandannoy? Surprised he's not all over this.

I'm afraid the only way to really get the right bike and right fit is to have someone experienced go shopping with you for an entire weekend. So you'll need to fly one of us out to where you're at and let us crash at your place. Unfortunately, everyone here works and is unavailable this weekend. But I'm unemployed and live with my mom so I'm ready to go.

I had to do that like a month ago since my dad is a n00b. Its actually kind of enjoyable being able to spend an entire weekend riding different bikes, and geeking out talking to the people at my local shops.

Bike shopping is fun. Unfortunately, it's so rare to find someone who wants to do anything more than buy something quickly and move on with life. They don't understand... bikes==life!
