Origin8 chainrings?

Why aren't these more popular? Made in USA, seems like good quality, minimal trademarks, fits 110 and 130 BCD, less than $25, indents for chainring bolts to fit more flush. Yet, I haven't heard anyone talk about them on these forums?
I am talking about their chainrings specifically, I know Origin8 makes...errr... distributes some cheapo stuff.
So, why?

Because they're ugly and although Origin 8 stuff is functional it's perceived as low end.

i have an origin8 chainring that came on my crank, theyre cheap because theyre cheap

not the greatest anodization and theyre (at least mine) is terribly off center

/edit: also the set i bought was said to have an 1/8" chainring, its 3/32".

Their manufacturing tolerances are low. Mine happens to be pretty round but I never use it because it is freaking ugly ( I got it in a trade)

I don't think you got the same kind I was specifically referring to. I heard about the ones that come with their cranks just suck.

So this is considered ugly?

Yes.

When used on a 130bcd crank, those extra 110bcd tabs/holes look like ****.

I'm on a 49t Beck chainring and I like it. It's much quieter than the stock SRAM chainring that came with my crank. The chainring is fairly close to my chainstay and to the naked eye, it has not flexed.

The Beck chainring really isn't too bad. Keep in mind that Origin 8 doesn't actually "make" anything.

I got that Origin8 ring in 48t when my last ring wore out. Not round, looks like ****, and after the first 100 miles it actually needed trued. It's still on the bike, but only because I'm not putting more money into this bike unless absolutely necessary. I'm already sitting at over $1000 on an SE Lager. **** putting more in it.

I don't mind Origin8 stuff, but I hate those dual bcd chainrings. As others have said, ugly. They look like cross-eyed fat girl that got kicked by a mule into a pile of turds.

No problems with my Beck 130. Cheap, round, stiff, aesthetically better than those 110/130 things.
Might even look better after some oven cleaner.

Here's my chainring in Piermont with some old 105 cranks.

It was the "I don't mind Origin8 stuff" that was offensive, huh?

Yeeep.... So, we all just care about the looks?
If the chainring starts to bend and shark tooth after 500 miles. I will gladly eat my observation about these chainrings. It also might just be the Fred inside me (that sounds awful ), but I think they look more practical.

FWIW, my super cheapo ring that came with my cranks has given me no real issues after 1500 someodd miles of commuting and generally hard riding

It just doesnt look at cool as a zen ring and is very not-round

Looks make the world go 'round.

I'm considering replacing my Dura-Ace chainring with an EigthInch chainring and I hesitate at the thought, all because of looks. In reality, I'd probably never notice a performance difference.

I'd go with Surly chainrings. They're a bit more$$ and a bit heavier, but holy **** do they last. I've got one on my ss mtb which, for two years, was my sole trail and winter bike. Salt, sand, dirt, mud, general grime, water, you name it. Every once in a while I'd clean it off and it would shine like new. Still shines, but after a couple years of hard riding it's starting to look a little more gnarly. A quality ring.
