White industries track hub?

Has anyone used this hub before or ever seen it being used by someone? I've heard good things about white industries but I can't find a solid review of their track hubs. I mainly want to use it for a single speed with a White industries eno freewheel. I might use the fixed side if I ever do feel like it but some people say that the design for their cogs would have play overtime which I don't understand, but it sounds bad.

I haven't tried that hub, but my WI Eno crankset uses the identical spline pattern for the chainring. It will not work as a FG without loctite. The slight play in the spline interface loosens the lockring. Its a poor design. I have heard others say that it works just find...but I wouldn't take the chance. You are much more likely to get a traditional track hub to work properly.

Well since the fixed side has issues, what about using it for a single speed instead?

Sure, but its pointless to buy an expensive hub that only works in a half-assed way. You can buy a hub for 1/3-1/2 the cost that is just as reliable, will spin just as smoothly, will do the exact same job on the SS side, and a much better job on the FG side.

WI makes some really great stuff (e.g. road hubs and freewheels), but some of their stuff is poorly designed and esoteric (cranks, track hubs). The WI freewheel is the best freewheel you can buy and totally worth the cost. The WI track hub, on the other hand, is overpriced and pointless.

Hmmm, you have convinced me. Can you recommend me some single speed hubs?

Formula and Novatec (OEM) hubs are still the best bang for the buck. They can be found under a variety of brand names. There are many other hubs (Dia Compe) that are between Formula/Novatec and White Industries in cost, but to be honest I haven't really looked into hubs for years, so I'm a bit out of date regarding whats available. Others can probably chime in.

However, just keep in mind that FGSS hubs are mechanically very simple compared to road or MTB hubs. It doesn't cost much to make a good FGSS hub. Most of the really expensive hubs out there are just bling and have no performance advantages.

I have had no issues with my White Industries splined cog. But I only have it because I need the eccentric hub. I would not own that proprietary stuff otherwise. Unless you are after bling I do not see the need for that high-price stuff and I would pick Formula also.

That's one of the main reasons I picked the white industries hub super shiny which is a perfect component in a classy build. I mainly want it for the single speed and not the fixed.

Do you realize that the threads for a track cog and SS freewheel are the same? If you buy a normal threaded flip flip hub you can have a freewheel on both sides. You can't do that with a splined hub.
