I've had BMX too I was riding through a parking lot and was watching some people with a dog when BAM hit a curb and flipped. The bike landed between my legs and the little thingy that holds the brake went into my knee. Popped a tire and still have the dent and scar from the brake thing. The worst thing was they were watching me the whole time.

Last week I snapped a Keo spindle while Cat 6ing it up the Manhattan Bridge. Bruised elbow, twisted upper back, but amazingly unhurt for the speed and force with which I went down. "Clipping out" with my hand was a very strange feeling. I've lost a little bit of trust in machines. I think I will be a bit less unnecessarily aggressive while climbing, in the future.

I was cycling back from Manchester centre down the canal towpath which in that part of Manchester is muddy, very narrow verging on singletrack, very slippery and pretty treacherous in places.
Anyway I spotted a fisherman ahead and slowed down to pass him. I lost my balance and fell sideways and would probably have ended up in the canal if the poor fisherman hadnt grabbed my bike at the right moment.
Unfortunately he had laid one of his fishing rods and when I landed I fell on top of one of his fish hooks which impaled itself into my leg and wouldnt come out despite us both gently trying to manoeuvre it out.
I told him I would have to take the hook with me to the hospital to get it cut out and could I take his address so I could either return it or compensate him in some way but he said no just take it, thats ok.
Think the poor guy was too much in shock at what had happened.
I had to cycle home with the hook still in my leg and get a neighbour to drive me to hospital where they removed it with no fuss and after warning me of the dire consequences of the hook having been in the canal with a multitude of nasties, prescribed me antibiotics and sent
me on my way.
Luckily there was no serious damage done and the wound healed up in ten days or so.
Hope the poor fisherman didnt have nightmares

Was riding on MLK and the traffic was nuts so I decided it'd be safer on the sidewalk. 15 feet on I slipped on a tree root, scraped myself up, cracked my helmet and was laughed at mercilessly by children. Dynamite.
Other than that I've been pretty lucky (when sober).

Also while on Sky Group ride last week at the end of a 30 miler we were coming on to a canal towpath and it was busy with people.
The rider ahead got too close to a pedestrian and had to swerve to avoid her but in doing so made me swerve and I hit him side on and went flying off onto a tarmac surface while hearing pedestrian shout "You should have gone slower!"
There was me sitting on the floor with the whole ride looking on while I got over the shock and convinced the ride leaders I didnt need an escort home bless them.
Hands were stinging and elbows and knees were sore but I did get up and finish the ride which still had some fun trails

road/mountain crashes: too many to count
fixed crashes: 1, and it happened on saturday!
I was out holding a good tempo in some of my fav riding weather: high 60s/70 degrees, overcast, no wind, light rain. slick 23c tired on the fixed.
I was on the MUP bike path (fortunately no one was around) and put a little bit too much power into a swooping left hand "corner" and the rear wheel slid out. I landed like a pancake on my left side, ruining a pair of bibs and scratching up my left pedal and the bar tape on the left side.
Oh and I have a nice large raspberry scrape on my upper left thigh, not unlike ones ive had in the past

Too many to count. My most recent crash was in a CX race two weeks ago. 110 degree turn downhill turn with loose dirt in the apex. Luckily I went down on the practice lap and didn't have 30 guys stack up on top of me.

Dang, that sucks. They had a recall on some pedal spindles a few years ago. How old were your pedals?

Oh, and I'll throw in a story. Broke my pinky sliding into a tree while mtb'ing. Had to ride a few miles back to the trailhead one-handed with a tire lever splint. I tried to set it at work and let it heal without going to the doctor, but it was an unstable fracture and kept moving around over the next couple of weeks. At one point I was worried the bone was dying and wouldn't mend, so I thought about cutting it off. It eventually healed and I now have a gnarly, crooked pinky.

dunno if it counts, but tore a chunk out of my knee this spring after starting to get off the bike, overbalancing, trying to put my foot down and accidentally clipping back in. went down like a sack of ****, blood everywhere and had to cut off a flap of skin in my office and ghetto-bandaged my knee with paper towels and Scotch tape after applying hand sanitizer.

Been riding in nyc for years, so far i have been pretty lucky.
1) one of my very first experiences riding in the street, i was crossing 5th ave in manhattan on a red light because i saw my dad do it. A speeding taxi came within centimeters of hitting me dead on at 35mph. One of the scariest moments of my life, i was 13 or 14.
2) was doored by a taxi passenger on canal street. I made him pay for a new front wheel.
3) this happened two years ago. One of my first experiences on a fixed gear, i was coming down the manhattan bridge at good speed and slammed into the railing (ocean-side). I dont really know what happened, i guess i started inching too close and overreacted. I dont really remember. I broke my collarbone and was bleeding profusely, but i insisted on trying to go to work! Some very nice messenger-types pretty much forced me onto an ambulance. If they are on the forums, i thank you
havent ridden fg since, switched to ss cuz im a puss like that

Just had a good one a couple days ago. Going down a hill (my GPS had me at 47Kph) on my fixed gear I had the chain pop off. For a second I thought I would just coast to a stop, but my rear wheel locked up. The unexpected skid threw me down on my right side, I bounced off my back, coming to a stop on my left side. I was still in the pedals. Luckily there were no cars close to me when I went down, but I dragged myself and the bike off the road just in case. Didn't break anything, (on me or the bike), just a lot of road rash.
What was great about the incident is that I had two cars stop and offer me a ride home and a pedestrian who was walking her dog offered to walk home and get her car to give me a lift. I kinda felt bad turning them down, but I still had another 15Km left on my ride.

Thus far, just two memorable ones: I fell off a bike (either my BMX-ish Huffy or my White Lightning) when I was 9 and got a raspberry on my left hand that persisted for a while.
I crashed on Ragbrai two years ago when my wheels got caught in a pavement crack 80 miles into the century day. I was on my side and skidding before I could finish saying "Oh fuu..." -- ended up dislocating my right thumb and putting a separation into my left AC joint. Despite the pain and tenderness, I was stupid/badass enough to ride the last two days.
No crashes on the fixed-gear thus far, but winter's coming...

Way too many crashes over the 20+ years I've been mountain biking and riding/racing CX/track/mtb.
A few notable ones:
-crashed my DJ bike so hard doing some urban freeriding in Boston that I knocked myself out (crushed the helmet I was wearing at the time) for some amount of time, at least a few minutes I think. I don't remember much about the crash other than that it was off a big dropoff, since that's where I woke up. I was really just amazed nobody stole my bike while I was out. Also, nobody stopped to see if I was okay and I was riding by myself at the time. Not the smartest thing I've done.
-crashed my DH bike in a freeride park in NH and tore the face guard off of my full face helmet. 2 broken ribs, a sprained hand/finger, lots of scrapes and blood, but no major damage. Came in way too hot on a really tech section and ate it face first into some logs. Got lucky.
-got physically pushed off the road and crashed out by a disgruntled a-hole in a luxury car on my commute home (names and places have been omitted to protect the innocent) who was angry he couldn't pass me, although it wouldn't have done any good, since it was bumper-to-bumper and I was going as fast as the car in front of me. Got up, grabbed my bike, chased him down, pulled out my pocket knife, and ran it down the entire side of his car. Then I proceeded to sprint away up some side streets and alleys so he couldn't follow me. Was genuinely scared of this jerk and pretty embarrassed of my actions in the heat of the moment (I inherited my grandpa's temper), so I laid low for a few days and didn't ride that bike for a while.
-in 2007, I rode from Boston to Key West with two other friends on loaded touring bikes. Each of my friends crashed only once during the trip, one guy riding into Baltimore and the other guy on some sand on the Outer Banks, NC. I thought I'd made it all the way without crashing, but I clipped one of my rear panniers on a construction pylon on the LAST day, about 60 miles from the end of the trip. They'd been doing construction along US-1 through the Keys, and we were riding really close to the pylons that were used to block off the closed shoulder. I was daydreaming and drifted a little too far right. Snapped out of it while flying through the air without my bike under me. Much lolz were had.
Countless other crashes, wipe-outs, endos, etc.

Highland is awesome. I miss living/riding up there. Are the Vietnam trails still around out in Milford MA? That was my favorite place to ride mtb.

Hit a steep little bump/defect in the road tonight going to my friend's house to pick up an fsa slk stem. It was already really dark and I didn't see it in time, so it threw my hands off the hoods and before I could get my hands back on the bars to straighten myself I was already eating a nice steaming plate of ****. I had to get up right away to stop the incoming car from runnin over my goods though!

He'll think twice about running another cyclist off the road then with luck.
I was waiting with my partner who uses a walking stick at a crossing and this driver went straight through on the red. He could have hit either of us if we had started to cross.
My partner rapped hard on the roof with his stick and the driver jumped a mile, had no idea where he was.
He'll remember that crossing for a while.

aahh. las week while riding up flamingo road towards las vegas blvd i had a taxi try and push me off into a sideroad full of taxis waiting to pick people up, basically right into another car so i slammed my hand on the back window as hard as possible. Kept me from getting smooshed as i yelled what the **** at the top of my lungs and he looks at me like it was my fault.
I ****ing hate taxi drivers out here...still the same after moving away back in 07.
next time i break a window.

I had one where a 92 year old lady hit me and I wound up in the hospital for a week with a collapsed lung.
However, my most embarrassing crash was when I was riding through the city. A toddler ran out towards the road and was going to wind up mangled in my wheels. I couldn't swerve to the left because there was heavy traffic so I locked up my brakes and came to a stand still right in front of the kid (blocking them from running into traffic). The kid ran into the side of my bike and I fell over to the side in slow motion. The mother who wasn't paying any attention came over and started yelling at me and telling me if her baby was hurt she would sue me. I told her you're welcome and continued on my way.

Yeah, well this story is stupid on my part cause its rare that i get into a crash and i have a brake too. I was doing about 18 - 21 mph on my fixed, going downhill into this big intersection listening to music kind of like tuned out. There is another hill which is very steep maybe 30 - 40 degrees and a bus was coming down it very fast and i didn't notice in time so it basically cut me off at the intersection giving me about 2 - 3 feet to slow down. At this point i was thinking to myself, well i am going pretty fast, did just go through a red light?, i have a front brake (i don't ride with straps or clips), i could try to turn but then i would probably got hurt even worse and if i try to step on the rear tire i would skid right into the bus. So i just slowed down bumping the side of it and smashing my shin into the pedal, getting some serious bus rash along my right shoulder and back which is what happened as i rolled off the side.
Then i was on the floor, i got up walked to the driver to try to calm her down. Finally some guy came to console the driver and help me leave the scene. All and all it could have been a lot worse, i went on to the this MS group Century the next day on that same bike (needless to say it was a bad idea as i injured my left hamstring pretty badly trying to climb all those hills on my ratio . . .)
