Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

This weekend I picked up the Kona Unit I've been waiting for. First SS MTB and totally love it.
Sorry for the potato photo.

Thanks, technically it's a Colossi Cheeko Track that they branded for themselves at a Shanghai shop called Factory Five. I am actually trying to sell it without the brooks saddle and sparse lights. I don't have much use for it given my other bikes. Will be hard to let it go.

I wish they let me bring my bike into my office. They won't allow them in the elevator.

I'd rather not go up 23 flights of stairs while carrying my bag and bike after my morning commute. Also I'm not a morning person.

Bikes: Specialized Roubaix Expert 2012, Specialized Stump jumper HT comp carbon, Swobo Sanchez custom build single speed freewheel.

Built up a Swobo Sanchez frame

Frame and fork is 6 pounds of double butted chromoly. Full build is 21 pounds. Got parts from all over. The big surprise for me was how comfortable the used Brooks B17 was. Gearing is 44 X 16 (freewheel). Since this photo I switched out the Thomson elite and put on an FSA carbon seat post. Even smoother now. I have an expensive road bike and mountain bike that I love, but this single speed has stolen my bike soul.

I believe I'd be breaking with protocol here if I didn't haughtily dismiss at least one choice on your build, so... colored chain, eh?

Now that I'm in compliance with forum standards, that looks nice. Well done, and have fun riding it!

I know. I was afraid I'd pimp it too much. But when the chain arrived it looked good to me. I decided that cosmetic choice snark was irrelevant to me but probably a socially important concern to some others. Having a bare metal chain BECAUSE you think colors are stupid is the same as having a stupid orange chain, eh? The ride is awesome and I am sure I climb better with a orange and black chain and last longer in the saddle. Sure of it. As a side note, I ride in Pasadena and the Pasadena parrots often follow me around. Orange bike love? Can't say.

Not a fan of brown seat with orange and black. Feel like you need to rock more silver components and brown grips to make the brown saddle work. But it looks like a fun bike to ride, which is what's important. I hated my B-17 to death.
