Steel track frame ona budget!

I am searching for a reasonably priced steel track frame with tight track geometry. I was looking at KiloTTs and Soma rushs but if anyone has any other suggestions they are greatly appreciated. I would prefer it have a threaded stem. Lugged or un-lugged, doesn't matter.

Why do you want a threaded headset?

What is your budget?

I would check the used market, especially if threaded is your thing. Pretty sure the Specialized Langster Steel and Fuji Feather came with threaded setups by I don't know if they're still in production.

some of us have a preference for the aesthetics of a classic quill stem setup

That's not allowed here. The general consensus is threadless is better, so you will need to come up with a damn good argument for threaded. Otherwise, this forum will chew you up and spit you out dammit!

Personally if I wanted the more classic look of a track bike w/ threaded headset, I'd buy used off eBay or c-list. You'll probably end up with something nicer (or at the very least, cooler) than a budget new production version of something similar.

There are lots of legit reasons to have a threaded set up. Most of my bikes have it. But for some one that has one post, and is looking for a bike on a budget, they may not have enough knowledge to know why. Threadless is much easier to find. So if they change their mind it would be a good thing.

The fuji feather is still in production, but the geometry may not be as track tight as you want.
Sweet bike though...ordered one for my wife for Christmas. Should be here any day now.

if you fit a 56cm frame you could grip on this one... might need a new paintjob/saddle though haha

No difference between a 1" threaded and 1" threadless frame other than the fork and there are still quite a few 1" frames out there and the right fork isn't hard to find. I know retro-gression.com has one and somafab.com sells them too.

I know the Soma Rush, Pake Rum Runner, Affinity Metropolitan and Kilo TT have 1" steer tubes and can be set up as threaded.

i think the rumrunner is 1 1/8 now...
also to add to epic, the affinity low pro does as well.
also https://spicercycles.com/ will do their framesets in 1" if asked, for i belive around 450 or 500.
maybe less i dont remember.

there is a guy on here who had a custome spicer made and it seemed he was pretty happy with it.

Define reasonably priced. Budget threaded framesets (in the Kilo TT price range) are getting harder to find, but at higher pricepoints anything's possible. Some numbers would help make suggestions.

My Pake is 1 1/8, the older ones may be 1"

This post exploded quickly! Ive been riding fixed for about 3 years now and i got a leader 725 a year ago but im kind of over the 'leader look' and want to go back to the roots with an old glory, tried and true steel frame. the preference for quill stem is completely aesthetic, however.
Thanks errbody ive been scanning CL and ebay meticulously.

my budget is around 500 at the moment. I'm more focused on tight geometry and reliability than manufacturer

Here is another suggestion, that I think in the long run you will be most happy with.

Since you have a functional bike that works well, don't go out and buy something right away. Save some more money, get your ideas together, then go out and get your dream bike.

Honestly, if you want steel and tight geometry, can't go wrong with a kilo... haha.

But most are against that, so if you want to make use of more of your budget, check out a custom Spicer.

I'm not much of a track bike fixie guy but if your looking for tight geometry on budget you will find a lot more options if you focus on the bike as a whole. One has to realize that modern tight geomtry on bikes came into style on most bikes about the same time as theadless headsets so nearly any bike new or used with tight geometry will likley have a threadless . Plus if everyting is tight and right ride wise there really isn't any difference between a threadless and threaded headset perfomance wise.
