Hahahaha the first two sentences had me crying lmao! "Upon receiving this beast of a bike I immediately went and signed up for a STRAVA account. Next I searched all the local KOMs and decided to go hunting. On my first ride I stole 188 KOMs and got a speeding ticket from the local police department."

King of the mountain. If you get first place on a segment, you get a KOM. It's silly strava crap...but also pro racing crap, as the person with the most climbing points in a race gets the KOM jersey.

Strava was fun for awhile, but now I mostly just use it to track my riding. For no real reason other than the fact that I am OCD and crazy analytical when it comes to tracking things.

plus its nice to know when you tell someone "i did 5000 miles last year" that it was actually 5000 miles
i think a handful of times i was like oh im goin after that segment, then forgot about it about 3 seconds after i got on the bike. i like to compete with myself but thats about it

Hasn't the whole KOM thing been ruined by people driving around with their GPS's in their cars yet? That's what I figured would happen. It's like playing on-line chess. If you play against anyone with a decent rating there's an 80% chance you are just playing a computer.

I was never very good at strava. I either forgot to turn it on at the start of my ride or forgot to turn it off at the end. Eventually I got a new phone and somehow the app never made the transition.

I use Strava to track my commuting miles and just see how I am doing against other local riders. I did take a KOM and almost another last night, but that is not why I use it. Tracking mileage is the main use with the social stuff left off. No friends, no kudos, no posting to any social media.

not really tho, people try it sometimes but it generally gets flagged immediately, if not you just report it and it gets taken down

I couldn't believe it when I heard about "Digital EPO" for this Strava nonsense. Who actually gets this anal about Strava?: How to tell if someone used Digital Epo to cheat on Strava | ScarletFire Cycling
I took off my computer a few years ago and have been much happier since.

Strava is life! Jk I use MapMyRide on my phone to check if I'm improving on some of the routes I take. Like a challenge yourself kind of thing. They even gave me a $20 gift code for under armour as a member appreciation thing.

I tried that app before Strava. 1. It wrecked my battery. 2. GPS had a hell of a hard time locking on to it. I didn't want to get on Strava and become one of those guys, and so far, I haven't.
