It just seems like they decided to make a bike that would appeal the most to freds. That doesn't seem like an unreasonable marketing strategy to me.

To be fair, I think there are wind tunnel tests showing that disc brakes can be fairly aero. I've seen pro disc folks in the road forum blabber on about it, so it must be true.

What confuses me is the trash compartment. How much trash does one accumulate during a tri/tt?

From what I read the bike is aimed at triathletes. I've only attended a couple regular triathlons in CA, but both had very real hills. The official Ironman here has some serious hills and it has rained on race day a couple times.

There's a compartment? I thought it was just saying the frame is trash.

I don't really think that Diamondback tri-bike is JA myself, just a slighly over-the-top purpose built bike

But since it was already discussed here - seems like it is a portent of more like it...

If I were racing 100 miles I would want a bike that did it's job better than other bikes. A Tri bike is just a tool afterall, like a tennis racket. This bike may be ugly, but it is an awesome tool for the job. Having storage compartments for food and tools instead of bags flapping around or stuffed in your (totally inconvenient) shirt is a great thing. It's what Triathletes were asking for in a bike. The amount of adjustability for fit without replacing parts is fantastic. It breaks down conveniently (somewhat) for packing and there is a custom case for travel.

All the "ugliness" of the frame is what makes it slippery through the air. Because of that, from an design point of view, it makes the bike attractive to me.

It's hard core design focus, purpose built for ONE task. I think it's awesome.

There are a lot of beneficial performance features on that bicycle that some folks might not be seeing. And when I say "features", I mean actual performance enhancements, not gimmicks. Things like shapes, positions, angles, and weight distribution. Even that little subtle bump on the belly pan chin will serve a purpose.

Ehh, tri-bikes just have this weird conflict of purpose in my mind. Like the whole point of a triathlon is to prove how tough you are by completing this long, grueling race across three disciplines, but then the whole point of these bikes is to spend a lot of money to make that same race easier.

That's very true. But that's pretty much how all athletes view/select their sports equipment.

With all due respect and as someone who has done tri and duathlon, saying, "the whole point of traithlon is to prove how tough you are" illustrates a fundamental misunderstanding of the sport.

There is a tremendous sense of accomplishment but that isn't the same as proving something. I certainly never raced to prove anything.

There is also a camaraderie among triathletes which simply doesn't exist in the cycling-only world. You will not find triathletes beating up on each other the way cyclists do. If anyone is out to prove how tough they are it is cyclists. In tri races it is common to find the early finishers cheering the back markers as they come across the finish line and they are the first to acknowledge how tough the age groupers are, people who hold 9 to 5 jobs and are still able to train and finish.

The whole point of an aero tri bike, to go faster. I can assure you from experience that no bike makes the run easier. It never gets easier; you just go faster.

The irony that you have some of the least-racy bikes on this forum is not lost on you I take it ?
