When I was around 8 years old I dropped our 2-3 year old cat off our 2nd story patio, just to test if she'd land on her feet. She was fine and lived with us for another 18 or so years. Never knew her actual age since she was a street cat that just started coming around.

But yeah, putting a kitten on a high place like the original picture is pretty stupid and cruel.

It's instinctual for a cat to right itself as it falls and land on its feet (unless you're our cat, then you just flop however you land). There are tons of videos on youtube of cats falling/jumping from telephone poles, tall trees, tall buildings, etc. They have a keen sense of orientation, I think the hairs in their ears help with this - I swear I saw that in a documentary once. Cat's also know if they can fit between things based on their whiskers, if their whiskers don't rub, they're good to go - which is why you're not supposed to cut a cat's whiskers.
Yes, cat's climb high, yes they like heights, yes they jump from those heights. Even if the kitten fell and didn't right itself, I'm sure it would be find as they have softer bones to prevent breaks when they're young. However, I still think putting a kitten on a bike seat next to a ceiling just so you can snap a photo is kind of mean.

cats when falling will also flop around in the air and then right themselves before landing so that they slow themselves down as much as possible. Another cool factoid about cats is that if they break a bone or get a bad cut their body will pretty much cauterize the veins so they dont bleed out.

real man here. why is everyone *****ing about running their cat at low heights? i always run my cat at 3 stories up minimum with no retention. makes me ****ing sick seeing all of you prissy fancy feast cat owners ragging on high height cats when yours never even get to jump. why are delicate princess cats celebrated when the real cats who get to jump are frowned upon? go out and drop it from 4 floors up or gtfo this thread sucks im a real man
