Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? WOW. I was hoping to see some kind of actually half-impressive fab work, but nothing prepared my sphincter for what followed.

Actually, a carbide tipped blade will cut aluminum with no drama as long as you don't rush the feed. Ferrous metal blades look just like wood blades but have a negative hook angle at the teeth.

My Fuji track Pro only had steel inserts on the outside faces of the track ends and the inside faces were getting pretty chewed up. I used a 1/4" carbide router bit in an offset base router to relieve the inside faces so I could put inserts there. It's not the prettiest thing, but it got the job done.

All that said, the job that guy did is pretty jackass...I really like how there's 1/2" of extra bolt sticking out on the inside...

That was horrifying. I don't want to know how he acquired track ends with the tangs welded on them already.

Is there any rule against posting links to other forums? I know some forums frown upon it. I'll post it if there isn't.

The forum was giving the "builder" a lot of flak though. This was one of my favorites.

He didn't acquire them pre-fabbed. You can see evidence of ****ty mig welding that he partially tried to cover up by grinding. Probably chopped the track ends off another decent bike.

that GT hack job is out of hand. I have to believe it was some sort of bet gone wrong or an inside joke.

bought a used bike, took it home to clean it up, took it all apart to find a full carbon fork with a star nut dug into it, and the steer tube poking out only ¼" above the headset. Basically i need a new fork. Oh well, at least i barely paid anything for it.

1. Carefully saw small sections out of an empty bike rack at night.
2. Tape sections back into place with black or yellow tape to make it look untouched.
3. Wait for expensive bikes to be locked up and then remove cut section to easily snag bikes.

God I hate thieves but that is sadly clever.

Thieves saw through bike-racks, cover the cuts with tape, wait for bikes to be locked to them / Boing Boing

These are JA, but they are positively elegant compared to that GT chopsaw hack that I can't unsee.

I guess it might be only because we don't have a good place for ingenious bike inventions. I wish I needed to hack lumber because that thing is dope as hell.
