Today I, well yesterday actually, I mounted some real, permanent, truly useful full fenders on my Motobecane Messenger (formerly naranja) fixed gear utility bike to go along with its rear rack. I found some old ESGE plastic fenders lying around that are so old they are marked "Made in W. Germany", and needed some ingenuity and a lot of elbow grease to get them mounted, since this bike lacks fork eyelets or a chainstay bridge and the rear fender stays have to share the rack mounting hole. I did end up chopping the rear fender at the end of the rack to permit installation and removal of the wheel w/o having to remove the fender. I see no sense in using these flimsy partial clip on fenders that don't do much to keep the bike clean as well as the rider.

"Flimsy, partial clip on fenders" work just fine. They aren't gonna keep you 100% dry, obviously, but they will keep the crap from the road off yer back, and outta yer buttcrack. Yer feet will still get soaked from the down tube splash, obviously. Not everyone has 35 bikes with varying degrees of "stuff" on them. They are good for track bikes that don't have the clearance though.

But whatever works, for ya.

Today, just now, I realized that the plastic full length chainguard on my SE Draft Coaster bike fits perfectly on the Motobecane Messenger, so I can now ride with long pants w/o needing ankle straps to keep them from getting fouled in the chain. The chainguard has a non-adjustable downtube mounting clamp, and by just dumb luck the downtube diameters of the SE Draft and MM are the same.

It's the fun slippery stuff that causes the summer warriors to put their bikes in storage.

Fenders are more of a fashion statement where I come from. :lol:

There are plenty of times where just a backscratcher to keep my ass dry and clean is all I need.

Still glad I have one bike with full fenders for more intense rain riding tho.

Full metal VO fenders on the dedicated commuter. Right now, rain isn't as much of an issue as snow bank melt...

How soon is the century ride? Sometimes it is better to not change things up as a big ride like that approaches.

There's no specific ride/race I'm doing. It's just a personal goal to do a hundo. It was particularly warm on my ride yesterday and it lit a fire under my ass - must attain my goal before the temp begin to soar to the 100s. I'm thinking next month some time.

I remembered you posting about how you didn't like the quality of the paintjob dolan put on it; now that you're with it, pics?

[MENTION=180928]Leukybear[/MENTION] correct. Still not "happy" with it but I'm okay with it. I'll try to get some good pictures of the issues next time I'm at my parents. The paint is thin in certain areas, some debris under the pain in other areas.
It's not extremely terrible, but not something I would have accepted as new from a company.
With that said, Dolan (Specifically the owner) were very professional, admitted their fault and offered a partial refund since the cosmetic quality wasn't up to their standards. I still recommend them and their frames.

Hmm I just realized the pre-cursa lacks inner facing frame protector plates on the track ends. I always thought they had them.

Meh, I've got several aluminum frames like that, including a Pre Cursa, and I can't see any wear or problems with them. The outer plates are the crucial ones.

True but I expected an experienced company such as Dolan to have included them.

Couldn't use my fancy gold jagwire hydro lines for the coupling like on my maguras cause the ID was too small for the barbed fittings.

Took the fittings to work and made them there. I'll finish my bike tomorrow or the day after I think.

The Pre Cursa is Dolan's entry level aluminum frame, and it's no different than others in that price range like the Leader Cretin and Pake French 75, which also lack inner dropout plates. I think you are making a fuss about something that really does not matter very much. The important thing is that Pre Cursa is made with 7000 series aluminum and at least on mine the quality is very good.

I'm not making a fuss, I was just surprised. Relax.

It looks pretty good. My computer is being a little **** right now, so I need to deal with that, but when I'm not getting BSOD, the game looks good even on the lowest settings.
