Appreciator of quality journalism, yes.

Speaking of journalism,

I opened the Health section of the school paper at lunch yesterday, and it turns out every month there are strain reviews (as in marijuana). Complete, of course, with THC percentages, aromatic evaluations, and music recommendations. Thought that was pretty funny.

Bought some spd shoes for winter/cx riding, built a two foot by six foot quarter pipe for winter skate sessions and bought two pairs of tights for the rain, just need to grab a pair of thicker gloves and I'm officially set for winter.

That's one thing I don't miss about the PNW

Today I went to the shop to get new pads for my helmet because I somehow lost them, and I asked about their saddles, and got my sitbones measured. Apparently I'm supposed to be on a 168mm saddle. I've been riding a 130 last time I got measured 2 years ago, so that explains the numbness.

Today I decided that I wanna ride "brakeless" SS ie SS with only a coaster brake just so I can **** with people

johnnytheboy 09-29-14 09:36 PM

deja vu?

TMonk 09-29-14 09:39 PM

Decided to take a personal PTO day today

long ride in the AM
lots of stretching, foam rolling
cleaning
chores
cooking+leftovers
playing the piano

It's been a good day.

MS 150 is in 10 days and I don't remember the last time I went for a long ride with climbs. If I want to do it fixed I have to do something soon. School and work stress no bueno

Two days ago I added a front brake to my coaster brake bike. I'd rather be able to stop my bike quickly than mess with people.

You've been riding long enough, 1 long ride should be enough to prime those endurance metabolic pathways that you haven't hit in a while. The event won't be such a shock to the system, and it may even increase your performance over the final stretches.

Just make sure you give yourself a couple days between your long ride and the event. At least one day for sure.

Thanks. I'm confident in my ability to go the distance, really it's only 150 miles split for two days 100/50 in places I have ridden plenty. I just had an urge to go fixed and I haven't done that in a long long while. I need one good ride to get into it.

TMonk 09-29-14 10:14 PM

ya that should do just fine

johnnytheboy 09-29-14 11:06 PM

today i got my strava 1250km badge for september.

Coaster brakes arent really known for their durability.

I did STP in July fixed with almost no real long rides(just track) and had absolutely no issues, granted it has pretty much no climbing but just back to back centuries.

Yeah I learned that the hard way back in 2008. Besides, it's not like is be going everywhere with it, just a few times a month to get some confused looks

LouCypher 09-30-14 12:54 PM

Noticed that down low in my jeans near my boot there was a crease that was stuck together. Pulled it apart and there was a smashed caterpillar. RIP

SpeshulEd 09-30-14 01:13 PM

I started commuting by bike again last week. It's nearly 19.5 miles each way but it's actually a really nice route. Feels good. Life is getting back to normal.

Muffin Man 09-30-14 01:22 PM

I'm starting to commute on Mondays and Fridays now because I do it without having to wake up at ungodly hours, and its 23-24 miles each way.

Commuting is fun in it's own weird way.

Shotland 09-30-14 02:30 PM

Wow. My commute is 6.5 miles each way. You guys are boss.

AristoNYC 09-30-14 02:33 PM

I went for a run today, first in a long time and I stumbled across a Pokemon.

.8 miles for me. I almost wish it was longer so I was forced to ride more everyday.

Mine is about 2.5 (I had to convert for you 'mericans) miles and I feel the same. Well, depends on the day, and the weather and how well I prepared for both.

Exactly. Come below freezing temperatures this winter my ride will be plenty long enough.

TMonk 09-30-14 09:14 PM

You could always ride for the sake of riding.

I also live 2.5 miles from work, ride ~8-10hrs/week yearly average, and rarely ride to work.
