Today I was instructed to move on to overhead welding. Its going to be so great in my cramped welding booth, a real face full of sparks and slag.
Tonight I fixed up the bike I helped the lady purchase. Drilled some holes for the bottle cage, added a rack, tires, and adjusted the brakes. http://i.imgur.com/6Dv4CeT.jpg http://i.imgur.com/UnLoEft.jpg |

My commute is about ten miles round trip, it's the perfect length.
I need to get a tubeless set up in the cross bike, raced last night and pinch flatted on the second lap. First ever dnf. |
i miss my 11 mile ride into work, despite the fact that i dont have the motivation to start riding again
|
today i drove my explorer for the first time in a couple weeks.
i'm fortunate enough that my new job is 10mi each way from my house....i racked up 146mi last week just from commuting. easy miles, man. |
My old commute was around 15 depending on which way I took. 19.5 just means I need to get up a few minutes earlier, but yeah, it's easy miles. Plus I don't feel bad eating the donuts in the break room when I get to work.
I could probably shave off a few miles if I didn't take the canal paths, but most of the roads between the house and work have zero bike lanes and rush hour drivers are ********. |

1.2 miles through the most effed up snarled downtown traffic/construction ever. Takes half the time or less compared to the car. :D

if i dont take the "long way" to my job, literally every other way is a death trap. only 3 miles or so one way anyway, but sometimes the wind is killer.... maybe thats why i drove every day this week
|
~1.7 miles each way to work, and it's all downhill there, all climbing on the way home. And I often work split shifts, so I'll ride that distance 4x in commuting alone most days.
Still wish it was a bit longer from home to work, though. |
Tried to install SKS longboards today. The key word is tried. In two hours I made little progress. It'll be a pain in the ass because of the disc brakes on the front fork (the rear ones are mounted under the seat stay, on the chain stay), and so I'm going to give it to a bike shop to make it their pain in the ass.
Portland people: what're some good bike shops? Preferably on the east side of the river. |

I also live 2.5 miles from work, ride ~8-10hrs/week yearly average, and rarely ride to work. |
Riding indoors sucks so hard. I burnt myself out one winter doing workouts in the early am to save time.
Time lasts twice as long indoors. |

Time lasts twice as long indoors. Have to credit the exercise bikes at 24 hour fitness as I get too sweaty to look at my phone and it hurts my neck to keep it croned up to look at the ceiling mounted TV's. |
just read this article about what to do if youre in an accident, though it headlines NYC's "no fault" medical insurance policy, most of this applies anywhere

I actually handle that very well. I just zone out of it all without having to do anything to keep myself attentive.

I would do interval workouts, which required me to constantly keep and eye on my HR, and not let it drop below a certain BPM during the interval. It got pretty torturous after a while.
If I'm not feeling interval that I would just set it to "kiliamanjaro" for a climb of the same length. All of which I pretty much zone out and just ride. Yeah I rather be outside anyhow but you gotta do what you gotta do after a work day. |
Today I boggled the minds of two roadies as I passed them on a fairly steep and long ascent up a hill.
|
Today I found out that despite the handful of vitamins and pint or more of milk that I've been consuming daily, my broken femur hasn't formed any noticeable growth towards mending since July. I get to wait two to six weeks to find out why.

Got in a short fixed ride in preperation. Where are my legs
|
Today I can add this to one of my reasons I should finally break down and get myself a go-pro for my commutes:
Riding back home, I hear a big loud blast of fighter jet roar, I look up, I see 6 blue angels flying low toward me in side by side formation. Executing their vertical sweep maneuver right in front of me with white smoke contrails. It was surreal. For all you guys in San Diego or LA, the MCAS Miramar airshow is this weekend, Oct. 3,4,5. And if you can tell from my post, you can figure out the stars of the show. :) |
today i weigh 12lbs less than i did 10 days ago...thanks to commuting in to work everyday and watching what i eat.

Likewise. On cardio days I generally just hop on a lifefitness cycling machine, set it to level 25, 60 minutes, and just ride. Followed by a prolonged cool down 15 minute cool down at the end. And then take a picture of the 1000+ calories supposedly "burned" to txt to the sqrl.

Yeah I rather be outside anyhow but you gotta do what you gotta do after a work day. Most find that it takes more willpower to ride for a given duration/intensity indoors. Still, I know of some people that ride primarily indoors, because of the control that it provides. Crazy talk. |
