Yeah, That's a good point. maybe we will just hit the road at like 3 am, that way we get some driving into the morning, get to a stopping point, gas the vehicles, then get some rest. I'm not looking forward to Nebraska at all.

Where are you starting and where are you ending? Iowa is pretty hilly as far as I can remember which surprised me. After you hit Omaha, then there is Lincoln, then there is not much else after that in Nebraska.

Leaving Cleveland, ending in the Bay Area(CA)

As long as you are not heading to Denver on I-76, you are fine. Nebraska? You will want to drive through Nebraska again after driving I-76. Tumbleweed across the highway, and I went almost an hour without seeing another car once. That was during the day.

Yeah, as far as I know, I'm on 80 pretty much the whole way.

SpeshulEd 07-27-15 08:37 AM

I did the drive from Michigan to Arizona but not along I-80.

I was all excited and planned to stop at corny roadside attractions, take photos, and document my trip...smoke on the way and just take it easy.

Middle America sucks. There's nothing. I quickly threw the camera and smoke in the trunk, bought enough energy drinks to keep me wired, and powered through at around 80-90mph the whole way. I stopped at some ****ty motel in Texas and crashed for 4 hours and then was back on the road before sunrise. I made it in a day and a half.

****.

Definitely hike-a-bike! There were several places like this on this trail, but this was probably the worst. I do think some highly skilled folks could ride down this section, but it would be virtually impossible to go up it on the way back.

The 80 in Wyoming is somewhat nicer than the 76. I actually don't think the 76 is that bad except that there is this weird thing that happens when you leave Nebraska, it is like you went from color to black and white. East colorado is essentially a wasteland. If you can appreciate a couple hours of wasteland it is pretty scenic, you just keep looking for the mountains. I would actually be the most worried about over-heating once you get to the mountains and unfortunately there isn't as many places to stop there.

Drive the 70 through Utah during the day, it's incredible.

I've done that run a few times (deliberately) at dusk. The COLORS awesome.

I am =1ing everyone that said avoid the night shift. I find the myopicness very draining and snooze inducing. In the day time there may not be much to see, but at least you CAN look around.

Yeah, good point.

TenSpeedV2 07-27-15 11:46 AM

I am not a huge fan of driving overnight anyway. I feel like my eyes and brain do not work as well as during the day.

Ordered a top cap from mash on the 22nd and still no email confirming that it's been shipped... time for an email I think.

I think I ordered mine the same day and had them by Friday. I'd definitely investigate.

First "real" ride on the Venge, rode a loop of a local island. Damn this bike is fun to ride!!! And, on reasonable roads, it is nowhere near as harsh as some play it out to be. Now, once the new stem gets here, it should also be comfortable.

Just saw this video posted in a thread folks might not read from the SS/FG group, some might. It is the coolest bike video I have seen. And, I would love to know how many bike were broken trying to film it??!

That was insane! Super cool.

I took a first ride on my new (to me) ss bike. I don't know if it's because my last bike was a boat anchor Schwinn Continental, but I'm very impressed with how light and responsive it is. Can't wait to finish going through it and getting a fixed gear for the other side!

If you liked that, you'll love these. Artistic cinematography and a nice score. The scenery and landscapes are breathtaking.

Once I finished, I had Queen's "We Are the Champions" playing in my head!

It was. Now I shouldn't bike for three days.

I really like the one I posted, for the "I cannot believe it is a road bike factor..." The first two of these have very interesting scenery as you have noted. That last one made me nervous just watching it!!!!
