If you are doing that go with Molten Speed Wax but honestly just a simple wax based lube will do you just fine without all the hassle of completely cleaning your chain till the mineral spirits are clear again and melting wax and whatever else you need to do.

Chain L on my commuter, good ol triple flow on the road, and Boeshield T-9 on my dirt bikes.

Chain L last forever, even in rain, but gets so ****ing filthy.
Triflow is a pretty nice in between, stays pretty clean last pretty long.
T-9 will keep your drive train immaculate, but be ready to relube when you get back home.

Raced at the track yesterday, got second in two races. The guy that won broke away and I just kinda hung on for dear life. He's around 170 lbs, and has a max 20 min power of 350w, so I was dying just trying to stay on his wheel.

Muffin Man 05-12-16 09:21 AM

T9 doesn't last long at all. Like 80 miles maybe, and then it starts squeaking like crazy.

Is this the stuff you're talking about ? https://www.universalcycles.com/shop...&category=208# If so, I'll give it a try.

This is bang-on accurate.

motrheadsroadie 05-12-16 09:46 AM

boeshield is great.

Yup. I prefer the aerosol. It foams up and really penetrates.

Nagrom_ 05-12-16 09:54 AM

It also doesn't play well with other lubes because its so light.

I'll degrease the stock lube off my chains if I use T9 on them.

motrheadsroadie 05-12-16 10:15 AM

green triflow is good for using on cables and housing. phil tenacious is best. i prefer it to slick honey.
aerosol green triflow is good for getting old shifters with gummy pawls that wont engage to work again too.

Nagrom_ 05-12-16 10:17 AM

I really can't find a use for Phil tenacious.

Please don't gunk up MY housing.

Huffandstuff 05-12-16 10:25 AM

I never lube my chain, I want people to know I'm coming up on them.

Muffin Man 05-12-16 12:05 PM

Been thinking about getting a real track bike soon. Maybe if I get past the 4's.

Muffin Man 05-12-16 12:05 PM

Ok well not soon then, but eventually.

This is my experience as well.

80 miles is pushing it. I even soaked the chain in a ziplock bag full of the stuff but it didn't help.

Keeps the chain super clean though.

50voltphantom 05-12-16 02:15 PM

What do you guys use to degrease your chains with? I've been using Simple Green.

Nagrom_ 05-12-16 02:19 PM

I can't imagine trying to degrease anything with simple green. Dawn dish soap would probably work better.

Use anything that's labeled a degreaser. The citrus stuff generally doesn't work as well, but it's better for you and the environment.

I use straight up engine degreaser, gloves are a must. Skin starts burning immediately. Put the chain in a 1l bottle and shake until it's clean.

motrheadsroadie 05-12-16 02:21 PM

soaking your chain in a ziploc bag full of any lube is insanity. there is no need for that.

Nagrom_ 05-12-16 02:22 PM

Def try the aerosol T9 before you give up on it. Use the red straw and blast the inside rollers. It foams up and penetrates really well.

+1

motrheadsroadie 05-12-16 02:25 PM

dont use aerosol lubes on your chain. dont use aerosol lubes on your chain especially if you have disc brakes.

Nagrom_ 05-12-16 02:27 PM

You need to learn how to place a rag when lubing.

motrheadsroadie 05-12-16 02:28 PM

for t9, ill wipe my chain clean with a dry rag, apply some t9 and then let it sit for 10 minutes before wiping the chain clean again and going out for a ride. i think thats pretty much what the instructions on the bottle say.
i can get a month out of it being quiet if i ride only on the road. but if i do a bunch of miles in the dirt then it only lasts like two weeks.

franswa 05-12-16 03:31 PM

I spray my whole body with lube then I hug my chain really tight. Best results.

I can confirm that this is the best way to apply lube to most things in life.
