Got a screaming horn pass from my older neighbor in his big truck. Further told I have no right to be on the road.

report filed. Police came

Didn't say, "You have no right to be on MY road."

currently suffering the effects of some kind of phantom spraying what can only be battery acid in my eyeballs.

Today I watched qualifying for the Jerez GP.

63 degree (from vertical) lean angle at 100 mph

Last night I had a burrito filled with carne asada, beer battered shrimp, shredded cabbage, seasoned rice, and a creamy chipotle sauce. That's a weird combination of flavors and textures, but it really worked.

TejanoTrackie 04-23-16 12:40 PM

So, today I rode my fixed gear for the first time ever while wearing a HRM. I routinely ride my geared bike with a HRM, and expected my average heart rate to be higher on my FG, but saw no difference. Interesting.

That sounds good too.

When I lived near the coast in Ca there were so many Mom 'n Pop Mexican places with great chow. I really miss that. One place used to BBQ shark fillets then shred the meat and set it aside. When you ordered a taco they would throw some meat on the outrageously hot flat top and drench it with some seasoned mystery oil just long enough to give it a sear. Damn those things were like cocaine. May I please have another, may I please have another, may I please have another. :p

Went out for a ride to do tabor laps but was on my last couple of laps and saw dark clouds rolling in, sprinted over to the bar to get food and walked in the door as it started pouring.

Today I bought some hairpin table legs to start a reclaimed wood table project that the sqrl had showed me a while back on pinterest.

TenSpeedV2 04-23-16 11:09 PM

Today I rode my fixed gear bike and was really happy about it.

Did you have a power meter?

Maybe your heart rate would have been higher, but you were just pedaling slightly easier.

I don't have a power meter and have never used one, so I have no way of knowing if my effort was any different. I just thought that the inability to shift gears would require more effort and cause my heart rate to increase.

Many people do find this to be the case, but I guess it's not true in every instance.

At any rate, PM or not, I've no doubt that you're experienced enough to know what a similar effort feels like.

thewilson 04-24-16 09:45 AM

Man I want a PM to know if my power matches my crazy HR. I capped 203 today.

Mumonkan 04-24-16 11:31 AM

nice i still got the high score, 204!

Mumonkan 04-24-16 11:33 AM

today im doing a final load test of the fatbike before i send it out tomorrow, im so excited but at the same time im gonna be losing my **** until i open the box and put it back together again and everything works

At my age those scores would occur right before death! And, when I was your age it was pretty much ride until you puke. We were not too sophisticated, but we did ride hard!

Kindaslow 04-24-16 12:42 PM

Going to buy a longboard today and try to ride it with a big Kahuana stick. I might be really old to try this, but I have been curious for awhile. So, maybe it will be great fun and maybe it will be on CL in 6 months. Better to try and fail than to never try...which I might rethink if this means an ER visit....

TMonk 04-24-16 12:49 PM

HR doesn't mean anything really, in comparison with others. Some guys are wound high like a rice rocket (myself included), others are big diesels.

I happen to be the rice-burner type myself.

Have fun!

I've been meaning to buy a skateboard myself for quite a while. I hate riding one of my nice bikes to the store or the taco shop around the corner when I'm on sidewalk the whole way, and I have to keep an eye on it the whole time.

Alternatively, I could always build up the KHS Flite 100 that's been sitting in my parent's attic for years with some risers and a dinky gear.

Maybe I should do both!!!!

TMonk is 100% right. Some people have a big pump which runs slowly while others have a smaller pump that runs faster. Just the way people are built. Max heart rate isn't trainable - it is what it is and the number isn't really that interesting or useful.

What really matters for heart rate training is lactic threshold. A higher LT lets you ride harder for a longer time. LT is a very useful number for gauging effort and is highly trainable.

TMonk 04-24-16 04:25 PM

Huh, I had never thought about it in terms of stroke volume, makes total sense.

I agree that LT is what really matters. Unfortunately, it's impossible to measure directly without a lab. A good functional metric for monitoring increases and decreases in LT is to do a Functional Threshold Power test.

To be completely rigorous, you're supposed to ride at threshold for an uninterrupted 60 minutes, as it has some physiological meaning in regards to your available muscle glycogen. But doing that in practice is absolutely awful, hell a 20 minute test is bad enough. When I'm testing, I do a 1' and a 5' hard effort before hand, with adequate rest, to burn off some of my anaerobic work capacity. Then I do a 20' all out test, and take 95% of that value as my FTP. Not sure if it's accurate, but as long as your test method is consistent it should provide some utility for setting up training zones.

I don't test during the season (well, March - July for me) as I'm mostly plateaud and not losing or gaining huge amounts of fitness. I may adjust my FTP up a little in the softwares if I pull out an amazing performance, which happens sometimes in April - June. I test regularly (1x/4-week block) September-February as I am generally ramping up my training and fitness for the oncoming racing season, and that's when I see big changes in fitness. It's motivating.

From mid July - Sept I'm focusing on other things, like hiking, body surfing, mountain biking, sleeping in with my SO or drinking with friends. I still ride, but not too hard or too much, and as a result I lose fitness. But hey, it feels good to sleep in, drink too much and otherwise be a lazy POS sometimes :)

TenSpeedV2 04-24-16 11:08 PM

Today I might have split some cars on the bike, without a helmet on.
