Today at the shop I met a gal who is a cat1 rider who is racing red hook. Was going to get a photo of her and her bike but she was asked by them not to post photos of the bike online until the event. She was about to join a group A ride with some roadies on her FG. She told me that she doesn't know how to skid or track stand. She asked me if I thought she should go with 48/14 and I nutted in my drawers.

Also, I almost completed a space horse build that I hope someone will admire and appreciate enough to purchase.

Was it Sammi Runnels!? She's from Austin. Got 5th overall in last year's series... super badass woman. Would love to meet her.

Today I needed a new bottom bracket on my beater bike with a no-name square taper crank... decided at the last minute to splurge with part of my tax refund on a nicer external bearing crankset instead. No regrets.

Bought a mid 70's Colnago Super Pista (SLX)....I'm having to slightly hand file the fork's lower crown to squeeze 23mm's.

White with chrome fork. Pics soon.

motrheadsroadie 04-27-16 12:43 PM

that frame was built for 19mm tubulars. quit ****ing around.

Regulatori 04-27-16 12:55 PM

The previous owner was running 22mm tubs since new. I don't have the frame yet so my 23mm may fit. He says I may have to file just a tiny bit. He owns quite a few older Italian pista's and he's had to that to a handful of his own...it's really common. The fork is chrome so I'm not worried.

Christ, I take a break from this forum for a few weeks because so many act like socially inept basement dwelling ******** and it gets tiring. Even when I post something positive (that I would be super excited about/positive if someone else posted about it)...but of course it's another billy badass know-it-all negative *******. Go pop in your Minor Threat/Circle Jerks and **** off.

Time to take another break (cue the one-uppers with the lolz gifs)

IAmSam 04-27-16 01:17 PM

So you would be proud about unnecessarily butchering a fine vintage bike and can't take the heat over it? I really hope you are kidding about that file :(

But seriously...sounds like your wheels are tubies? There are plenty of 20 & 22mm tubular tires out there so you won't have to eff-up another bike...

Huffandstuff 04-27-16 01:29 PM

But it's all about that sweet tire clearance photo.

motrheadsroadie 04-27-16 02:01 PM

circle jerks and minor threat? no no no. weve moved onto death in june and throbbing gristle.

Getting dizzy from the amount of eye-rolling I have to do around here lately.

I searched about 20+ higher end European/Asian bike shops and almost all include a similar pic to the one below in all of their track frame pictures.

I swear, this is the only forum that gives people a hard time about wanting tight track geo/tight fork clearances....yet when you talk to any of the exotic/boutique bike dealers all over the world, I've been told that's one of the first questions asked by customers.

They'll specifically say in emails: "May need a little hand filing to get your specific tire to fit."

But yeah, I'm the crazy one for wanting a proper old school track bike with 75+/75+, low rake fork, and tight geo with the tire almost touching the downtube.....

But like always, everyone here is the expert.

Typical frame seller shop pic showing a bike.....

No you're crazy because you seem obsessed with fork tire clearances from that thread you made a while back but I don't actually care, it's your bike and your money so do what you're gonna do.

23s on Seattle roads just doesn't seem fun.

motrheadsroadie 04-27-16 04:47 PM

you want a twitchy vintage bike to throw all that gold ano garbage off a stock fuji obey onto? cant polish a turd but you can file it down i guess.

seau grateau 04-27-16 04:49 PM

Literally no one cares about your fork.

How is that crazy? I simply wanted a fork with tight clearance. Every single Italian or Japanese track bike from the past 40 years has a similar tight clearance. For some reason modern fork designers are all about catering to people that want to stick 32mm tires on their track bikes.

It's not about obsession, it's simply wanting the correct part.

It's like owning a classic Ferrari/Porsche race car and every modern reproduction suspension/spring puts the fender 5" above the tire with a large gap. You simply want the original classic low slung look where the body is low on the tire and you can't find anyone that offers this seemingly normal part.

You're not crazy for wanting that look....meanwhile everyone is saying "Just deal with the 5" tire/fender gap, it's not a big deal." Sorry, I notice it and it matters to me.

Apply this to anything else and it's normal reasoning.

"modern fork designers"

motrheadsroadie 04-27-16 05:19 PM

that colnago pictured above is also missing a headset, so the clearance between the downtube and the tire isnt going to be as aggressive as it is there leaned against a wall.

motrheadsroadie 04-27-16 05:21 PM

why dont you just build up a set of 27" track wheels to run on your 700c frame to take up all that excess space.

Huffandstuff 04-27-16 05:23 PM

The reason why people are making forks accommodate non track tubulars is because they are now being ridden on the street.

I care more about how the bike rides than how many mms I have between tire and fork.

I prefer the crash it straight into a wall method to get that aggressive wheel to down tube clearance.

Regulatori 04-27-16 05:25 PM

I don't own a single gold item on my bike.

Better yet, I'll just jump on the gravel bike trend like everyone else and buy an old Bridgestone MB or similar. Luckily your ten attached pannier bags are waxed canvas for the constant circle jerking to your Grant Petersen shrine.

TenSpeedV2 04-27-16 05:28 PM

Changing the subject......

Today I for the first time since going fixed, flipped the stem so there is negative rise. Gonna give this a shot and see how it is. All 3 of my other bikes are like this, but I kind of held out on the fixed gear.

motrheadsroadie 04-27-16 05:28 PM

that silver pista with the sketchy alan fork (that you insist on riding because of the clearances) has matching gold seatpost, bars, and stem.
