I finally bought some park tool hex wrenches...thought I'd treat myself with some nice tools. I think I've had them for a week now, this morning I broke the end off one. So then, nice tools... :(

I think I'm gonna sand + re-paint my work stand in a La Vie Claire motif cause Lemond. The current paint is in rough shape to say the least.

Today I sell my house I've lived in for 20 years. Tomorrow I move to the Austin area.

Yeah, I'm generally disappointed in Park tools that aren't bike-specific. And their floor pump is straight garbage! The Pedro's set is pretty decent, FYI. Also, to the board at large, you can redress a rounded or broken Allen wrench by incrementally grinding it on a bench grinder (use the side of the wheel to get a flat edge and quench in water very frequently) or using a flat file with the wrench clamped in a vise. Just got to be careful not to lose the heat treating by removing too much material too quickly and overheating the metal, or else it won't retain square edges for very long.

That sucks, but don't feel too bad. Many years ago I bought a super-mega-high end-deluxe-snap-on set of ten screwdrivers. Guaranteed for life. Expensive as hell. First time I used them I discovered the handles were ergonomically stupid and caused significant palm discomfort under normal use. OK, my mistake. But, then I noticed that the Super-hard-made-in-the-USA tips were rounding off like warmed butter. Seriously. Useless junk after a couple normal uses. No abuse.

Lifetime guarantee? Yep. They are happy to replace them with no questions asked. The problem is that you get a tool that self destructs AGAIN the first time you use it.

Were they the P handle ones?

Turbo cottons are great tires, I have some on the roadie right now :D

I'd opt for archetypes instead of TB14's though. Or better yet, belgiums.

The quality of tools in general has gone way downhill.

I treasure the saws, drill bits, hammers and files from the 1930's and 40's that were handed down to me from my grandfather. If you can find good hand tools at garage sales then snatch them up.


Agree. Some of Parks higher end bike-specific tools are OK but they are not the brand to buy for general purpose tools like hex wrenches and screwdrivers.

First ride of a new block, so I did my usual ride:

2 hrs mid/high z2, 2x VO2-max climbs (one at 6 min and one at 3.5-4), with some random intensity thrown in.

As per usual, my legs felt flat and unresponsive on the hard climbs, but I hit my power targets no problem. It's kind of a weird sensation when you have trouble hitting numbers not because you're tired or sore, but because it feels like you're having to drag your legs out of bed.

Get up! Time to go to work :)

today im back to work in the real world, and this job sucks lol.

bunch of 50+ women and the only other guy in this office have apparently turned on one lady who does all the ****work in here, and since i sit right outside of the bosses office im listening to every person go in and talk **** about her all day.

i feel like im in jr high again.

the server room where my main job is, is finally getting new AC's put in and we have to move my desk into my bosses office while they tear down the ceiling for duct work, and its tiny as ****. i hope i can still put my bike and dirty clothes in there, his office is carpeted and i would just wreck his whole room lol

i havent bought a decent tool in my entire life except some powertools from dewalt, im not old enough to know what it means to be able to buy a quality hand tool in a store.

all the stuff i have was passed down from my grandfathers whom i never had the opportunity to meet. we have drills and **** from the 50s that still kick ass, and all of our ratchets are from the same era. things my dad bought when i was younger has all been bought, broken, and replaced, but his dads tools work as good as new.

im needing a bunch of metric stuff lately in small sizes and it sucks that i cant get anything of comparable quality

Yep, blue handles with the cool holder than hangs on the side wall. The round ball end broke off when I was tightening my grip this morning. It still works, but doesn't have the cool ball on the end.

I have two other hex sets, along with various all in one tools, but used the long Park Tools ones at the LBS one day when I was messing with my pedals and really liked the ease of use because of the handle and length of the tool.

Oh well, just a little sad when you think you buy something nice, and it turns out not to be.

Sounds like you got a bad one, seeing how beat up they can get at shops and still be good for more punishment.
I would try to exchange or warranty that. Park tool gets their standalone hex wrenches all made by bondhus nevertheless; their multitools are not.

I am always afraid to use the ball end to tighten anything for fear of breaking it. The metal removed to make the the ball creates a stress riser which really weakens the tool. I use the ball as a speed tool to snug it up and then use the Tee end to tighten it.

i second this, unless its a hard to reach bolt that doesnt require torque the flat end is for tightening, balls for speed

+1. No torquing on the ball.

Just don't gorilla strength the wrench when using the long end otherwise you'll be breaking something that's not the wrench.

Today after riding the steamroller again, I think im gonna swap to some 44cm drops for the CX, the width just feels so good.

That was the problem, I totally over torqued the ball.

Careful, the last thing you want is testicular torsion.

I already have a set of 1350g wheels (Soul Kozak to Pacenti SL23), so I'm going for the wide box section. Looks suuuuuuuper good on my bike.

I just killed a set of turbo cottons, and I really really liked them. Replaced with the new corsas, and while they're good tires, I like the looks of the turbo cottons way more. The new corsas are also super loud when you're cornering hard, which is kinda cool, but any hard acceleration makes the tires scream.
