That does look good. Just be sure to watch the BBC version with Sir Attenborough's killer Cambridge accent, and not the dumbed-down Discovery Channel version.

I laced up 3 of my 4 new wheels after work & errands, and enjoyed a wee nip of absinthe before bed. Running back to Retrogression tonight for a spoke-swap, as Sapim accidentally produced a sideways-bladed (barn-door) spoke. Not that aero... :foo:

Rim looked much prettier after wiping off all my greasy fingerprints.

He gets around. I put him out to stud on our windowsill, but he doesn't seem too interested in the Delft creamer cow. Alas, is there anything so sad as unrequited love?

There are EIGHT THOUSAND, SIX HUNDRED and FORTY individually posed and photographed frames in that 6 minute episode.

Stop motion is insane. The posing itself can be insane. Example: Man standing perfectly still in baggy clothes in the wind. Each frame requires the re positioning of many wrinkles in the clothing, his hair, and the tree leaves in the background. Takes a team about an hour to re-position, check for continuity and log everything. A three second "shot" on our screens took them SEVENTY TWO HOURS. And there is stuff that is far worse. Like crowd scenes, or moving water. The labor involved to create a "kiddy cartoon" is mind boggling.

Stop-motion is really amazing. I've always loved Ray Harryhausen's work, particularly his hydra in Jason and the Argonauts, but even something seemingly simple like a Gumby cartoon is a massive labor.

Thats right. Drawn back in the day when bikes were steel and men were IRON. Men who werent' afraid to WORK. Men like William Sherman and Henry Ford and Jack LaLanne. And they were GRATEFUL.

And we didn't have chain lube. The sparks motivated us to pedal faster. And we rode our bikes to school in the snow, uphill, both ways. And we were GRATEFUL.

And we ate DIRT. And we were GRATEFUL for that dirt.

Check out the film Anomalisa. It's an awesome (R rated) adult stop motion film. The main character suffers from a mental disorder called Fergoli Delusion. It's a pretty scary and sad disorder. The choice to use stop motion "Puppets" for a movie about Fergolis is freakin genius. The voice work is haunting and genius as well (if you understand Fergolis).

Really ?

Maybe it wasn't such a bad idea to reverse the fork as shown in the jackass thread.

Mumonkan 10-19-16 05:17 PM

Don't tell the randobros, they'll cream their pants if they see a fork trail that low

Today I went for a nice ride on my fixed gear conversion. We've had some beautiful Fall weather here, and I've been on a bike every day. I alternate between this one and my Steamroller, and my geared bike probably thinks I've forgotten it.

This is about my third ride on the Red Rocket since I replaced the crank last week. I got a used Stronglight 2000 for a really good price, and so far I love it. I'm now running 49x16 gears with 165mm arms. This is just a bit lower than my previous 53x16 and 170mm, and it's working really well for the kind of riding I enjoy.

Right now, about the only thing I don't love about this bike is the drop bar. I find it attractive looking, and riding with it is efficient. But it's not very comfortable, only because it puts too much pressure on my hands. I've picked up a bullhorn and will probably switch over to it soon. I'm also thinking of adding a brake, to expand the possibilities for riding this bike. I carefully plan my routes to stay out of traffic or any situation where I might need to stop quickly. Usually this is not a problem, but it occurred to me that I could go a lot more places if I didn't have that safety limitation.
