i flew 32 individual flights last year, and to be honest its really just the same thing as getting on a train. it helps to fly the same airline if possible, so you know their routine and policies and it makes everything a lot easier.
precheck really only saves you time if you frequently fly, frequent airports with notoriously slow security (im looking at you Denver), and you consistently run late. i didnt have precheck last year and it only hurt me once (again, looking at you Denver).
if youre a weirdo that has a problem with taking your shoes off in public, or if youre one of those people that struggle with common sense and wear kneehigh lace up boots when going through airport security, then i suppose precheck would also help you.

In other news we got out to the tarmac to board in PDX and were immediately sent back to the terminal because the plane "needs servicing". No other flights to Austin until tonight and no ETA for when the plane will be repaired. If they sent us off the plane they're probably not planning on having it done within the 3 hrs max that they can require people to wait on the plane.

I love the Denver airport because of all the wacky conspiracy theories. Traveling by train is super chill and I would do it all the time, but it just takes forever to go long distances.

Today I decided my old Ti mtn bike will be converted to a semi-weight weenie, rigid, SS. (Was previously considering going 1x9 and some racks.)
Decided on a carbon rigid fork for the front end. The biggest outstanding question is: what chain tensioner is best since I'm dealing with vertical dropouts.

Plus scenery! I took a train from LA to Portland OR in the winter a few years ago. We went through Shasta National Forest and everything was completely blanketed in snow. Growing up in LA, I had never seen anything like it before.

There was a guy on the roadie forum who posted a video of his son riding rollers on an Amtrak train while the train was moving.

We have but I never saw actual snowfall out there. The view on the train was different, everyrhing was blanketed in white. I have only seen that in movies and heard about from my Ohio transplant friends.

Went on the first real trip on the new 'brid my New Albunion hyrbrid I built up. It is freakin' sweet. 1x7 vintage XT RD, Surly chainring on a Tiagra crank and 11-32 cassette with an old Deore LX shifter and a mismatched promax brake lever that will be replaced (it is loose mismatching is fine). It is a steel frame with a carbon fork and most of the parts were from parts bins or picked up rather cheaply.
The tires need to be widened as all I had were 28s laying about but it is a pretty zippy ride and surprising lighter than a full carbon Sirrus Hybrid. Granted mine doesn't have some of the features of the Sirrus and with a rack it will be a touch heavier but still it was pretty interesting. 23.4lbs total pre-rack. It wasn't built up to be light weight at all it just happened with parts I was able to find it came out fairly light.

This was my first ride with the new squish fork and what difference it makes riding fast over the rough stuff compared to my rigid steel fork. My shock pump and disc brake adapter arrived in the mail so I can now switch to a 180mm rotor in front and tune the fork for my weight. Now I gotta figure out why rear brake squeals like a dying hyena.

That my friend is called a good choice. I love mine to death. A nice little front Nitto Rack and a dynamo set up have made it into one sweet rig for commuting and general fun. I love it so much I kind of don't ride my other bikes much.

BB7. But I think the issue is that I have a Centerlock hub with a crappy adapter. I'm trying to choose between a Shimano or DT Swiss adapter. The Shimano one actually bolts the rotor to the adapter, so I may go with that.

This past week I've been trying to re-buy the same make and model of car that I had sold 5 years ago.
It is proving surprisingly difficult to find a 2004 - 2007 impreza sti that will pass CA emissions legally without requiring any sort of significant wrenching on my end. Further hindering my efforts are sellers pretending to themselves that I dont know what a catalytic converter is and their car's lack there of them upon visual inspection.
My trick is to start kitting up at the beginning of the thought process. That way no matter the end conclusion, there's no excuse not to since all thats need is to walk out the door
