I sometimes have to head up there for work. I bike to work, but I drive a work truck if I have to visit Richardson. (they like me to get back to the office and the same day I leave it)

Nope I didn't ask around. I've been sort of disassociated/ inactive with the two big subaru forums for quite awhile now since I havent owned a subaru in some-odd 4 years now. I simply lurked around and got what I needed.

Of which happened to be the actual dealer pricing/ detail sheets.

I doubt I would've been able to use that coupon though, the subaru dealers all act like the STI is sacred around here.

I went to 2 dealerships (thank goodness).

Dealership A STILL had a $5,000 mark-up on a standard '17 STI. They were not accepting offers and were treating their price of sticker MSRP as a favor for me. I got up, thanked the salesperson for their time and apologized that they couldn't make it happen.

Dealership B actually wanted to sell me a car. The dealer pricing sheets definitely threw the sales manager a curveball though. Our brief conversation included off-key complaints from him (he was obviously pissed off) that the STI was one of their big profit makers and that they need to keep the lights on/ eat/ etc. I was holding back laughter when he restored to how about you go buy a bmw or audi who'll let you negotiate that low.

At the end of the day I was well within the range I walked in with. I did the math and they made barely $700 from the sale. I feel that there might have been stern talks after I left considering the sales person that vetted me dropped the line that their first '18 pre-order was the day before for sticker and I would be their second.

Speaking about appreciating the old, you should check out the hydro-testing marks on your welding tanks. There's some from pre-WWII still in use.

I haven't seen any really old cylinders yet.

Today I decided that I hate the bullhorns.

They don't have antique bike parts.

I definitely prefer skip stopping to skid stopping from higher speeds / in higher gears. I basically imagine myself as a glorified ABS controller for the bike

today i'm in my 2nd week of having a sinus infection. the pollen count this year has been off the charts. super sucks.

From a hand position standpoint, drops with hoods are essentially them and then some.

Today I did some forum catching up.

Also did 28 miles SS. After getting to mile eight – right before all the gravel I was going to ride – I noticed my rear brake was rubbing and had no 15mm to fix it. Had to ride about four miles to the nearest bike shop with the rear unhooked and forgo all my dirty plans for the day.

This. Without a doubt my Clements in 33 are waaaaay faster than the Gatorskins I've ridden for a long time.

Agreed. Hate front brakes on track bikes so bad. I like living more though.

Today my wife and I decided not to move this summer. Which means at least another year, and probably more, of 3-hour daily commutes. f*ck f*ck f*ck

Thanks, agreed. In addition to being a huge time suck, it's just so mentally exhausting. I'm pretty lucky, since I can do the first 10 miles by bike* before finishing up with subway + walking, but even then it's such a rough way to start and end every single day. My heart really goes out to people who have to do the whole thing by public transportation, or, god forbid, car.

I don't feel too bad for the people who have long commutes just because they want to have a huge house and so move way out in the suburbs, but a lot of people with long commutes are poor and can't really choose where they live or work. Yet another way that being poor tends to keep you poor, regardless of desert.

*I could do the whole thing by bike, but avoiding dangerous traffic would entail 50 miles round trip. I do it sometimes just for fun, but it's not physically or mentally sustainable on a day-to-day basis.

Today I managed to flop onto my side and prang my elbow at 0mph due to a pedal strike against a curb. I was trying to take an a poorly planned shortcut around some road construction.

I rode my local singletrack this weekend for the first time this year. Frustrated because some new water bars on a short steep descent I are messing with my head. My brain thinks I'm gonna go OTB even though I almost certainly won't.

Today was my first bike to work in about 7 weeks since my knee injury.
I managed to clip a wooden fence, bike stopped dead, twisted the bars around, and tossed me into the cement side of a bridge (it was a narrow walkway between the wooden fence of a residence and the bridge)

^ were you on the sidewalk when there is a bike lane right there?

I'm glad it was only an arm and not a head.

Still sucks though and I hope you recover real soon.

No I was coming out of that ridiculously narrow path between the concrete barrier of the bridge at the wooden fence. It's an entrance/exit to the park I ride through.

As soon as I pop out, I U-turn on the sidewalk and ride over the bridge, then cross the street and go through the neighborhoods.
Those are really bike lanes - they're more like outlined gutters. Drainage grates, debris, rocks, roadkill, branches, puddles, etc etc. But sure, they're labeled as bike lanes!
I only go this way temporarily because the entire eastern half of the park from this road on, is closed for bayou bank reconstruction after there were tons of areas that eroded into the bayou after the entire park was flooded last year after the tax day storms (you probably saw it on the news - i got lots of crazy pics).
Once the reconstruction is done I can go back to riding the whole way through the park.

Here's a pic I took of that narrow path a few months ago. my crash was about another 50 feet up further where it narrows even more and the cement barrier is a little more than waist high.
