Yesterday I rode a brakeless bike with black tires, a bike with two brakes and gumwalls, drank Perrier with lime, and had Lagunitas IPAs. I am vast. I contain multitudes.

Can we be friends?

I'll also want a wheelset built for it (prob TB-14's and some basic cartridge bearing hubs) and I have everything else that I need. The wheelset will need to wait a month (or two) but I can't stop thinking about that frameset...

I'm also going to run Panaracer Pasela's in 28c. With GUMWALL. They make those right???

Application will be fixed gear road bike. I already have a beater w risers and a track bike. Drops, dual brakes, fix/fix hub w 15 and 17t cogs. 42t ring.

I fully approve this message.

Going black components or polished?

TMonk 06-14-17 12:50 PM

polished dawg.

probably black saddle and tape tho

Carcosa 06-14-17 01:24 PM

Gooooood.

White would look good too with all that chrome and the pale blue.

TMonk 06-14-17 01:35 PM

Hmmmmmm. Yes it would. Decisions decisions...

Today I wish I bought spd shoes a year ago. Can't believe how easy it was to climb hills riding SS!

Dave

TMonk 06-14-17 08:38 PM

easy peasy.

I can like hills if they're narrow, twisty and interesting, but graded roads just really suck. Most climbs around here are graded.

TimothyH 06-14-17 09:41 PM

In Atlanta there is nothing but hills.

Have to go south of The Gnat Line to get flat land.

@TMonk, y'all come down. We got some jazz clubs and H. Johnson for you.

Today I realized that 42x16 is my new fav combo -- Spin out a little doing downhill but so much easier to tackle the uphills 'round these parts :thumb:

TMonk 06-14-17 09:46 PM

I've ridden a lot of 42/16 on the road and it's a good gear. What I do now is ride a 15/17t fix/fix cog and swap the wheel orientation depending on if I wanted to go fast or commute, run errands, noodle around or otherwise not go too hard.

"Now" is relative of course, as I haven't owned a fg for road use in a good 15+ months now. Working on it...

also live jazz is good.

seau grateau 06-14-17 09:57 PM

I ride 42-16 on my SS, seems pretty good all around. I can hit mid-20's on the flats before I start spinning out, and it's low enough that I can get up most of the hills around my way without muscling it too much. It's mostly on beater duty anyway though, so I don't really go out on it intending to crush anything.

I sadly saw this on the I-5 Grapevine after we were stuck in traffic for almost an hour:

:foo:

48/19 is lower than 42/16. Got me cornfuzed here.

I've found that sometimes a slightly bigger gear can feel better/faster up hills because I'm forced to get on top of it a little more.

:thumb:Today I hit a new personal top speed on my commute to work. 36.5 mph on a slight downhill. With my gear ratio this put my rpm's at 165.

to quote grant petersen: shift with your legs first.

Terrible morning today.

I noticed my fish were all huddled in one extreme corner of the tank. It turned out one of my aquarium heaters got stuck in the on position overnight and cooked some of my fish. Of the victims, were some of my favorites including a purple tang that I paid way too much for.

Warranty'll replace the heater but unfortunately, not the fish.

johnnytheboy 06-15-17 08:53 PM

today some bros accidentally knocked my bike over when it was leaning against a wall at 7-11. the bar plug got scuffed and that seems like it. i saw it happen outta the corner of my eye so i'm not 100% exactly sure what hit the ground. hanger isn't bent and there's no scuffs on the rear der. it still rustled my jimmies tho.

Unkle Rico 06-15-17 09:00 PM

Today i sold my Steamroller :foo:

Did 43 miles. It was hot. I'm tired. Could definitely go for a [beverage redacted] right about now.

TMonk 06-16-17 06:18 PM

lol

there's gotta be some sort of recovery drink that doesn't taste awful when you add some booze... that way we can knock off two birds w one stone :). A man's only got so much time.

johnnytheboy 06-16-17 06:19 PM

Are you riding the Tour d'Italia in the morning?
