Also got a nifty bottle opener delivered to my doorstep from solipsist.

My dads been making bottle openers like this for many years. He uses the biggest cog from a shimano "mega range" freewheel. Fits the bottle tops perfectly, plenty of room to dremel it off and manipulate the shape. Also, it makes like 4 or 5 openers.

Last night my MacBook died and I'm ****ing furious. Headed to the apple store today. If they can't fix it, I'm going over to the dark side.

Im pretty thoroughly computer illiterate, and I don't remember what kinda of insurance/warranty/service I got with my purchase ~ 2 years ago. Kinda dumb on my part. Guess ill find out later today. Tried repairing my HD, says it can't be and needs to be backed up and reformatted.

so if I were hit by car after subsisting on cheese fries, beer, and general misanthropy and cynicism, I wouldn't be riding for MONTHS, I gather.

If you can find a copy of Disk Warrior or Data Rescue, that might be the quickest/least expensive option. Otherwise you're looking at either $500-800 for non-invasive data recovery, or upwards of $1400 for clean room magic. This is also assuming that the hard drive is the only thing that's gone.
Is your macbook in decent physical condition (no honkin dents or excessive wear & tear)? You may qualify for Apple Depot repair, in which you pay a flat rate to ship your mac to an apple repair center and they fix everything that needs fixing.

SOURCE: i'm an Apple Certified technician that specializes in data recovery.

Heh. No. But discomfort due to excessive bar drop isn't the fault of the saddle.

Something similar happened to mine about 6 months ago. Did you by chance ever backup your drive using Time Machine? I try to back mine up about once a month now.

To fix mine, I just yanked the hard drive, used a windows laptop to try to save all the data I could from the drive. Bought a new 1TB drive for $100 and put it in, then used Time Machine to restore the hard drive. Everything was back up and running like normal within an hour. Then whatever files I was missing that were recoverable that weren't backed up, I copied over from the windows machine via my home network.

All that said, I like to tinker with computers and their insides. If that's not really your bag, apple care is the way to go. The "geniuses" should be able to get you squared away pretty easily though based on what you're saying the problem is.

Back on top, today I saw a guy riding aero bars on a bike with panniers. I lol'd.

you only need to lose everything/miss a deadline once to know the power of backups

Today I rode my bike really deep into the pain cave. Got off, got cozy, and stayed there for a while. Going up/down stairs is not fun right now.

Its in very good condition. I'm having the HD reformatted tomorrow. Data recovery doesn't seem too plausible which is a bummer, cause I just started getting back into gaming, downloaded steam, etc.

today i commuted in a downpour to and from work. didn't even care. beats last month's stifling humidity.

took the plunge and ordered a Brooks B17. have been getting away from padded shorts. properly measured my sit bones...and **** i gotta wide ***.

barely avoided running over a coyote kit driven out of the brush by the storm.

had a great night of historical fencing, working on 'stringere to thrust' combinations.

have to cover sex offender group in the morning. easily the whiniest population i deal with. urg.

Welcome to the club. I don't like Specialized but the Romin 168mm is the only available saddle wide enough for my ass. I though I liked other saddles until I got my Romin. There are some ladies saddles but why they got to be ugly?
