It'll make it waterproof on the backend. :) Today the post man delivered my Sugino 75's. Gave them a quick orbital scotch bright followed by mother’s mag polish and did some engraving. I like this technique, it gives it a nice semi polished finish that matches well with most off the shelf ‘silver’ components. Heat treated some chainring bolts to help add to the color scheme I have going. I might end up eBaying pink ones idk yet. Ran to the LBS and picked up a pin spanner for the Hatta R9400 BB and slapped it all together! Left the chain a little long so that when my new chainring comes monday I can adjust accordingly. Really happy how everything is slowly coming together. But seriously folks - many racers at the velodrome do that due to the great amount of power they can put out on a track bike. It keeps their feet locked in really well - makes foot, shoe, and pedal contact doubly secure, and minimizes the risk of pulling a foot. Nysss buy, and work - sorry to be nosy, but what is your day job? You could prolly make a nice side income selling your custom work to other bicyclists, or even a living if you really worked hard at it. Keep up the good work... |

Today I got to the shop later than I wanted and missed the post man. My shop isn’t on the best side of town so they obviously won’t leave the package at the door. So gotta wait till Wednesday to finish my build. Bleh! I got that wheel laced up for the Kilo and wanted to true it. I was going to use the fork trick to true it up... but then got ambitious and decided to make a truing stand. I started with some square tubing and cut the base legs and notched the arms to hold the axle. Then I welded it all up, I'm a terrible welder... but I think it will work! Tomorrow I'll throw some paint at it to prevent rusting and give it a go! All in all it was a good New Year’s Eve... freezing cold shop, rainy weather, tons of gunshots, blasting electric wizard, getting a Henry Rollins podcast education, sober, single, and fabricating steel toys. Last night I hit a pot hole with my road bike.
Not even going to complain about the roads. I was completely zoned out. 1800 lumens blazing like the sun and I rode right into it. Going fast too. Not too many pot holes where I live but I managed to find this one. Completely my fault. Scared the hell out of me. I yelled a bad word. Handlebar rotated down about two inches and I thought the world was ending. Bottles went into the woods. Two flats. Haven't dismounted the tires but there doesn't appear to be any rim damage. Walked home and took the fixed gear out instead. Had a blast. :) -Tim- |

Dave I trued the rear wheel for my Kilo today with the truing stand I fabricated earlier this week!!!! I had never attempted it before, and am very happy I now know how to lace and true my own wheels. It's a task that seemed very daunting but really was not once I took the time to research and get hands on. I used a dial indicator to get it true within .010... or ten thousandths of an inch before looking online to see that the industry standard is way above that at 1mm. or .040 (forty thousandths of an inch.) COOL!!!!! |
