Bikes: road, track, mtb

Freakin' smashed on the track last night and got major props. Road is done and on paper I'm taking it easy (not forcing it), but I have so much fitness this year I'm finding myself continuing to train hard just so I can be fast AF for our weekly track series!!! I guess it doesn't count as forcing it if I want to train!

Went for a chill 25 mile ride today. Against my better judgment I had been trying to go out and smash it on every ride lately, which got me feeling pretty worn out and (surprise) not getting faster. Decided to just take it easy this week.

We've had a pool for the better part of a year now, and only today did I try something I've been meaning to do - jump in right after a ride. Oh man this is great guys. Maybe I'll actually ride more often in the summer now.

Bikes: Pinarello FP Due, Cesare track bike modified for the street.

I wore out the front and rear tires at the same time.

Both tires worn to the cords.

The sprocket was fairly worn too. Growled like an angry bear with a new chain.

Come on down!

If you wanted to come when the weather's actually decent, you could do the Sugarcane 200 in January.

Today I re-aligned the rear triangle on my cross bike. I've been trying to figure out a weird tire clearance issue since I bought it, and finally some things clicked in my head after doing some measuring and I realized the whole triangle was shifted over to one side by quite a bit. It's much better now, but I've still got some tweaking to do.

My wife thought I was going to destroy my bike while I was pressing down against it with a 2x4. Steel is real though!

Today my daughter begins her move from Atlanta to Berkeley, CA for graduate school.

This is the view from the passenger seat of the car as she hit the interstate heading west.

Does she have a place to keep that iguana when it reaches full size? They're out of control down here, from people releasing them into the wild when they don't want to care for them anymore. The fish and wildlife commission has started encouraging residents to kill them.

Cool pic. Is this your last daughter to go to school?

Physics. Quantum materials - making chemicals for quantum computing.

Lowest GRE scores ever to get into Berkely. She did it on the strength of her research and we bought her undergrad research professor a nice gift. All the professors at Georgia Tech were like, "Oh, so you are the physics major going to Berkeley, huh?"

It is a bearded dragon. She keeps it in an aquarium mostly and I think it is full grown. The thing is the most chill creature you could ever encounter. Not sure how they keep from getting eaten in the wild as they don't seem to have an aggressive bone in their body. It loves to be high up and will sit on your shoulder all day long.

Florida has lots of problems. I hear the Racoon population is down 96% due to pythons. Too bad people have to kill iguanas. Its a sin.

Oh, cool! I think that's just the reptile way, honestly. Even alligators are essentially super lazy.

Yeah, south Florida's in a tough situation as it has a unique environment which just happens to be well suited to a lot of non-native species.

Maybe that's my problem, I'm part reptile and didn't know it.

Quantum computing - very cool! As I chemist I'm interesting in the composition and properties of these materials

Today I rode a Strava segment I've been trying to beat for a while. It has maybe a 3% incline, then slowly tapers off. The KOM was 1:00. I had 1:01, and got the same today, despite going into a zone 5 heart rate and maxed at 190. Anyone know how I can go a second faster and at least tie it?

Get low/aero, drop any excess weight off at the bottom, and hope for a tailwind.

We had a day of crazy wind in January. I went out for a ride around lunch time and was spinning out on the flat. Never done that before. I set a personal best on a short uphill segment of 25mph+ and would have gone faster if I had a taller gear.
